Last week, I had the privilege of privately attending the GVA - Gesamtverband Autoteile-Handel e.V. annual conference in Hanover, Germany. It was an excellent opportunity to learn, exchange ideas, and reflect on the importance of organizations like GVA. The GVA plays a crucial role in representing the interests of the independent automotive aftermarket, ensuring fair access to data and information for workshops and service providers. This is key to fostering a competitive landscape that ultimately benefits customers—those who rely on their vehicles every day. What stood out to me during the conference were the forward-looking discussions about how the aftermarket can meet evolving customer needs by staying close to them—both geographically and through tailored services. A focus on accessibility, transparency, and customer satisfaction is what drives progress in this sector. Thank you to Gesamtverband Autoteile-Handel e.V. for organizing such an insightful event. 📢 Short update from the Association of Automotive Parts Distributors and Producers (SDCM) Congress. The event provided valuable insights into the latest Automotive market development, upcoming discussions related with European and Polish legislation. I will not summarize everything, but would like to pin point one nice idea presented by Sylvia Gotzen (Chief Executive of Figiefa). Our industry is quite widely called IAM (Independent AfterMarket). When discussing and presenting our industry towards regulators in Brussels, we are quite often compared with OE (Original Equipment). Naturally "Aftermarket" does not sounds good. In reality, the aftermarket represents freedom of choice for the customer. Only in the aftermarket can the customer (driver) choose any service, parts quality, and price. Sylvia proposed a rebranding of our industry's terminology to better reflect its essence: Vehicle Lifetime Solutions Industry (VLSI). I fully support this initiative and encourage you to do the same. Starting today, let’s adopt this new narrative in all our communications. Together, we can redefine how our industry is perceived.
