#ICYMI, Navy Divers assigned to Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit One worked with the Royal Thai Navy (RTN) to recover the RTN corvette HTMS Sukhothai, which tragically sank in 180 feet of water in the Gulf of Thailand due to a storm in 2022. The #salvage team had four objectives: to search for the missing persons, to collect information in support of the RTN accident investigation, to demilitarize or remove sensitive equipment on-board and to recover culturally significant items to memorialize the tragic loss. The mission, performed as part of #ExerciseCobraGold2024, was the most advanced combined USN/RTN salvage event ever conducted. According to Lt. Cmdr. Max Cutchen, the U.S. Seventh Fleet Salvage Officer, “The combined diving on Sukhothai allowed us to capitalize on 30 years of bilateral #naval training in order to field a 100% interoperable team to attack technically complex, real-world objectives. I think this event opened all of our eyes to what we can accomplish when we work together.” #NavyDivers ability to conduct salvage operations keeps sea lanes clear, but allows us to contribute to important missions like this one. X-band satellite is less affected by weather conditions and is capable of supporting stable communication. Kirameki No. 3 adds to two earlier X-band satellites already in operation. Soldiers from the Australian Army’s Regional Force Surveillance Group (RFSG) Pilbara Regiment are trialling an uncrewed robot. Army’s 13th Engineer Regiment has trialed Ground Uncrewed System, known as GUS under a variety of conditions, including deployment on Exercise Talisman Sabre in 2023. Australian Army and industry partner Outlook Industries have worked together to develop GUS. Research and development is taking place in the Victorian town of Yinnar. The use of locally sourced materials and creation of new jobs has brought a welcome economic boost to the Gippsland community. The Ground Uncrewed System (GUS) is an Australian-developed surveillance robot. GUS is equipped with cameras and sensors capable of providing persistent surveillance for more than 30 continuous days using battery power. An on-board liquid fuel generator recharges the battery when it is low to extend GUS’s mission endurance even further. GUS can detect moving objects and can then transmit this information to a remote operator.
