Nick Clegg’s Post

President, Global Affairs at Meta

Today, we announced we’ll begin testing new measures that make it harder to scam people across our platforms. Specifically, we’ll begin using facial recognition technology to detect when scammers try to use images of celebrities or content creators in ads to trick others into sharing personal information or sending money. This work is designed to protect people and enable faster account recovery, and we hope that it helps inform our industry’s defenses against online scammers. We’re starting small and hope to roll out these protections more widely in the months ahead. https://lnkd.in/gE3uUpFq

Too little too late Nick for those of us who have had our accounts compromised. You at meta were utterly contactable. You didn’t want to know. Yet you rely on computerised algorithms and often you penalise people for using the wrong word

It’s encouraging to see measures that tackle scams directly, particularly as social platforms become essential to our businesses and personal lives. As someone who had her Facebook account hacked on August 12, 2023, and has a disabled ad account since then, I know firsthand the impact that breaches can have—not just financially, but in terms of productivity and well-being. I’ve invested thousands (in ad spend before the incident) and thousands with Meta-verified partners to get my account reinstated and lost countless hours trying to get my business back on track. I’m hopeful that initiatives like these will bring even more robust security for creators like me. Thank you, Meta, for making this a priority. Here’s to a future where creators can focus on building communities without fear of compromise!

Meta letter sent to all top execs, countless times. Ruined a family holiday due to the stress and waiting around for calls that don’t materialise. IT SEEMS LIKE IT’S COMPANY POLICY TO IGNORE ALL EMAILS REFERENCING ANY ISSUES Help requested over and over from every possible (impossible) support option. THE MOST USELESS ‘SUPPORT’. To the extent that I feel that this must be a SCAM The company that is happy to take your money for advertisements but which offers not an ounce of support or help in return. The company that doesn’t protect your account nor your identity, then leaves you in the lurch. Susan Li Javier Olivan Nick Clegg Alex Schultz Naomi Gleit Dear Meta Support Team, I am writing to urgently request the immediate escalation of my case regarding my hacked Facebook account (Case #52469559382****), which has been unresolved for nearly three weeks. Despite my repeated requests for escalation, I have been ignored, and the responses I receive are in broken English, further complicating the resolution process. My ad account (ID: 1610****) has been suspended, causing significant financial losses. DO CHECK OUT MY POST happy to keep taking my ad revenue, then ignore every request for help I

I've got an idea Nick Clegg, admittedly I'm only a small business owner rather than a global tech giant like Meta/ Facebook Public Affairs ..but hear me out.... You provide a telephone number so your FB customers who have had money stolen and lost their data can get it back. How about it?

Dear Nick Clegg, As you continue to expand your efforts in innovative technology and immersive experiences, I/We would like to invite Meta Platforms to explore Vietnam as a strategic market for investment. I/we warmly welcome Meta to consider Vietnam as a promising destination for investment and innovation. We also invite Meta to play a pivotal role in the development of international/offshore financial centers, as well as free trade economic zones in Vietnam. We believe this partnership holds great potential for mutual growth and innovation. NGO Huu Nghia

A lot of scammers are just using the same exact photos, should be pretty straightforward to spot them. (For a good example, look up retired US Army Gen. Mark Hertling) https://www.facebook.com/search/people/?q=mark+hertling

It's a start, but FB and marketplace are havens for scammers. What about tackling "genuine" paid advertisers that operate scam businesses, for example?
