This follows on from a post of a similar theme a week or so ago where I mentioned that we should treat all activities in our ROPA as a potential for a DPIA. DPIA come from at least two sources, existing processes, not already assessed (tut tut), and new processes brought about by business change. If your organisation is mature enough to have a project function, then DPOs should embed themselves into the project approval process and capture them early. I like the idea of adding these DPIA to a 'pre RoPA' which is something that we are investigating at ProvePrivacy.
