𝐎𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐧𝐨 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 🇪🇺 Next week the European Parliament will vote on the EU Driving Licence Directive. 🚗 🩺 When issuing or renewing driving licences car drivers shall require an medical check to prove physical and mental fitness for driving. 📚 Several scientific studies did not show any overall positive effects of age-based fitness-to drive check-ups on road safety. 🚨 Furthermore, it is impossible to identify and quantify accurately cause(s) of fatalities or serious injuries resulting from road accidents. ❌️ Therefore, EAC reject a temporal limitation of driving licences solely for reasons of age👴👵 and the introduction of obligatory medical health checks to verify fitness to drive. ❌️ Instead, voluntary refresher courses and awareness campaigns should be promoted. 📢📢 ⚠️The latest report on the proposal contains additional amendments which would have devastating consequences for road safety and driving licence holders if they were adopted.   The upcoming plenary vote is an opportunity to ensure road safety and fair and affordable access to mobility for all population groups. Our position: 🚫 no obligatory medical checks 🚫 no restrictions for novice drivers 🔝 EU-wide accompanied driving ⛔  Zero tolerance for alcohol and drugs

Why is nobody asking how much these unlimited free resits that people often don't turn up to is costing tax payers? Nobody wants to see a complete removal of the free resit. This would be a step backwards in terms of encouraging those who are driving unlicensed or remaining on their learner or restricted licenses to get licensed. The free resit is a fantastic concept that takes the pressure of low to middle income New Zealanders who suffer test nerves. However due to the lack of rules around its use, it has degraded the importance of learning the skills and preparing for the test, putting huge pressure on our testing system. The nerves once faced of failing the test and having to pay a resit fee, have been replaced with failing the test and not being able to secure another test for a further 3 or 4 months. The Driving Change Network proposed during submission stage regarding this change that government look to introduce your first test for FREE and then charge resit fees thereafter. This is done in Victoria, Australia and encourages learners to seek lessons if they can, practice as much as possible, turn up for the test and make sure their car is road worthy before doing so! For a government who is wanting to improve productivity, get people off benefits and save government funds, I cannot believe how long it is taking to implement changes that will fix this train wreck. #HOW #MUCH costs #DRIVER #LICENSE in 🇪🇺 It is spectacular to see how different the costs of getting driver license are in individual markets. 🔂 In EU there is free market of goods and services, so you are free to buy from any EU country, which often leads to prices of goods converging to similar prices, because customers can do arbitrage, if things cost significantly less/more in some regions. ⚠️ Howerer, then there are few (usually mainly) services that are isolated in purchase and bounded to local geography and/or language, that hold price immunity. 🚍 Such as the driver license costs that are not only bound to local language (you need to take course and exam in) and to local legislation. But it is stunning that even in fully language compatible 🇦🇹 the 🇩🇪would pay only 1/3 of their home market price. #driverlicense #eu #commonmarket #prices

🚨 Driving Change Network response to Minister's Licence Conversion Decision 🚨 The recent government decision to extend the overseas licence conversion grace period from 12 to 18 months is disappointing. While we recognise the intention is to alleviate testing delays, this extension merely delays addressing the core issue: ensuring all drivers in New Zealand are safe, skilled, and fully licensed. Statistics show that overseas drivers have been involved in a notable proportion of fatal crashes (6.5% between 2015-2020). This highlights the pressing need for comprehensive driver training and education—not just an extended grace period. One DCN community provider shared that, of the 55 overseas drivers they supported last year, only 9 had any prior on-road experience. Clearly, many overseas drivers need better preparation before hitting our roads. We urge the government to consider a 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 for overseas drivers before they book their conversion test. This would immediately improve the situation, with no cost to the government, and help ensure that only prepared drivers take the test—reducing the strain on our already overburdened testing system. New Zealand deserves a long-term strategy that addresses the real challenges in driver training and licensing. This week the AA Research Foundation released a study into driver licensing aiming to help address NZ's tragically high youth road death toll. New Zealand drivers and motorcyclists under 25 years old are involved in more than a quarter of our fatal crashes. 18-24 year olds here are nearly three times more likely to die on the roads than young Australians.   The study, undertaken by the University of Adelaide’s Centre Automotive Safety Research (CASR) for the AA Research Foundation, benchmarks New Zealand’s three-stage Graduated Driver Licensing System (GDLS) against overseas schemes. It identifies a number of measures with beneficial outcomes for novice drivers that could be used to strengthen New Zealand’s licensing system. Dear friends, the amendment of the Law on Road Traffic Safety in the Republic of Serbia and the lowering of the age limit for entering the profession of a professional driver is a great success of Srbijatransport and of significant benefit to all road transport operators. I would like to inform you that the enrollment of new candidates for professional drivers in driving schools has begun in accordance with the new ZOBS and the new Rulebook. Lowering the age limit for access to training is for C1, D1, C and CE categories to 18 years and for D and DE to 21 years. I also remind you that the requirement for training for C and D category is now possession of B category. Keep in mind that article 2 paragraph 5 of the rulebook stipulates that the candidate can access theoretical and practical training, he can attend it at the earliest 12 months before he meets the age requirement from article 180 of the ZOBS. The lack of professional drivers is certainly a big problem for our society, and despite these systemic measures and benefits, the problem of a lack of drivers remains, primarily due to the demographic situation in Serbia and the region, as well as the high prices of training in driving schools and in CPC. The current problem of the lack of professional drivers is being overcome by bringing in labor from Asian countries. Did you know that Young Drivers represent around 14% of Queensland’s license-holders, but are involved in around 25% of road deaths? Parents, carers and other driving instructors are the biggest influencers for shaping lifelong road safety behaviors for their young drivers. Opportunities exist from the pre-learner phase right through to after they’re driving independently and buying their first car. As part of our Beach and Road Safety initiative, we acknowledge the importance of driving lessons that instill safe driving habits for learner drivers. The Harrison Payne Initiative along with Moreton Shire Council are funding 10 Driving l Lessons for 10 learner drivers. We want to invest in our future P-platers and empower them to develop safe driving habits on our roads (including beaches) to prevent what happened to Harry, happening to another young person.
