Are international students getting the careers support they need? Some challenging data in this Wonkhe piece and a call to arms to universities to invest in careers services and targeted support for these cohorts. 'Whatever is done on immigration or cost of living, these are the sorts of perceptions that feed back and around inside countries. A good time to refocus on tackling these figures would be now.' https://lnkd.in/eV9Pn4xJ This is precisely why we developed UK Career Ready with our friends at Shortlist.Me: https://lnkd.in/e6uq6ky5 An employability development programme designed specifically for international students at every stage of their student journey. "It is so well made and really makes me feel like there are people out there worried about International students getting a job after graduating. Very reassuring on my end and I feel less anxious about attending career fairs, reaching out to the careers service, and networking.'' The programme develops students’ understanding of the UK labour market, from part time jobs to graduate roles, and empowers them to improve their employability independently, alleviating key pinch points for careers services.

UoN graduates are among the most sought-after by UK's top employers. When I was coming to the end of my studies, I honestly had no idea what jobs roles to apply to. I knew what I wanted to do in a broad sense, but considered the skills gap I had, and wasn't sure how to close it. So I booked a meeting with the careers team and one of the options on the form was (paraphrasing here) "I don't know what I want to do. I thought, "Yep, sounds like me." I sent my CV ahead of time and went into that meeting hoping for clarity. I got more than that out of it. Shout out to Anna Scrivener who gave me feedback on my CV and helped me think though what a career path looked like for me with my skills and education. And within 15 minutes of ending that appointment, she had sent me 3 job vacancies she thought were a good fit. A week or so later, she linked me with someone running a 2 week online program who was happy to take me on, and from whom I could learn, and those 2 weeks were an eye-opening experience for me. All these paid off because I got my job in October, a month after I submitted my dissertation. That was when I understood how important the Careers team is to graduates, and especially international students like me who are not familiar with the work culture and the job application process of the country we have chosen to study in. This is what I tell every international student I meet; before you start fretting, before you start sending those multiple applications, talk to the Careers team of your school. In my experience they want you to succeed and get a job almost as much as you do and they want this for 2 reasons: 1. They really, truly want you to succeed 2. It is free and excellent marketing for the school. To be able to say, "We provide a great education and support for our students to go on and excel after school", reflects very well on them. So please make use of them. Start early if you can, but even if you've graduated and you're still struggling, reach out to them, they serve alumni too. Don't forget, they are HR experts, they know a thing or 2 about recruiting. All the best.

Job losses at IDP Education Pty Ltd are attributed to a reduction in the international student market, leading to a six percent global workforce cut. Restrictive policy environments in key destination countries are cited as the main cause. According to a recent Regulatory and Market Update, IDP forecasts a substantial decline of 20-25 percent in the international education market over the next year.

Navigating Career Paths: The True Value of Education and Staying Employable In my previous posts, I have often championed the importance of education and earning qualifications.Blaming education institutions for not doing their job well has been a growing debate, yet it continues to exist as a powerful institution in many countries. While there is room for improvement in how institutions deliver learning outcomes, the onus ultimately falls on students and learners to carve out their careers and remain employable - What is your VALUE? Too often, educational qualifications are viewed solely as a ticket to employment. However, the true value of any educational credential lies in the individual who holds it. Reflecting on the past few years, there were periods when the world desperately needed IT and business professionals, leading to frenzied hiring and high salaries. Hardly anyone will say education is useless Yet, as business cycles slow and flow, the question arises: why do some thrive while others falter during downturns? It's crucial not to place the blame solely on education. If your field of study isn't yielding opportunities, take the initiative to learn, unlearn, and relearn. Seek out knowledge and maybe even change bad attitude that adds real value. Remember, the true worth you bring to the table often extends beyond your academic or vocational qualifications. What matters is how you use your education to make a meaningful impact. If you are struggling ask yourself: How do you enhance your own value in a constantly changing job market? #CareerDevelopment #LifelongLearning #Education #Employability #JobMarket Trends https://lnkd.in/gsFZqcTB

Is Higher Education a dead end? 🎓💼 This China Daily article argues that education is losing its value in today's job market, with many college graduates struggling to find employment despite their qualifications. While the author suggests integrating education with industry needs and promoting vocational training, is this really the solution? 🚫 On one hand, the 'education is futile' theory gains momentum as graduates find themselves underemployed or in jobs unrelated to their fields of study. Are we investing in degrees that lead nowhere? ✅ On the other hand, education is more than just job training - it's about gaining knowledge and critical thinking skills. But are traditional academic institutions failing to prepare students for the real world? 💥 Let's spark some debate: Do you believe higher education is still worth it, or is it time for a radical shift in how we approach learning and career preparation? Recently, we encountered an applicant who had responded to an advertisement promising campus placements in the UK. The applicant's primary motivation for seeking education abroad was to secure employment overseas. However, after conversing with an alum, it became evident that campus placements are not customary in the UK. Instead, securing a job relies heavily on networking, possessing the right work experience and having the appropriate skill set. This revelation prevented the applicant from making a misguided decision based on inaccurate information. At Alum-n-i, we empower applicants to make informed decisions by providing them with authentic, firsthand information. Prashant Tibrewal Aditi Arya Kotak #educationabroad

It has been seven years since I started my journey in educational consulting and career counseling. It's wonderful to have so many options when it comes to selecting study destinations, universities, courses, and educational consultants. The iconic office buildings and eye-catching signs of educational consultants in major cities cover the skyline. At Oxford Academia, we have helped thousands of students with their careers, regardless of their circumstances and chosen destinations, even if they decide to study in their home country. It's not about how many students we serve each year; it's about how much we can ease their journey and help them find placements. However, there are currently some restrictions on the most common study destinations. I have learned that students are not only looking to study but also seeking job opportunities with the goal of earning and learning. Due to visa restrictions, many students are failing to enroll in their home country. Parents should also understand the facts about visa restrictions and guide their children to apply and study wherever they can. The situation will definitely be settled. I hope that the policymakers of those countries will take a moment to put themselves in the shoes of these students and create policies that increase the joy of the journey while reducing its uncertainty and stress. Let's hope for a better future for the next generations!
