Big News for Cannabis Brands and Dispensaries on Instagram! Instagram's guidelines are changing, and cannabis brands finally have clearer rules on how they can share content. Meta’s updated policy allows content that “speaks positively about, encourages the use of, or provides instructions for using or making marijuana and THC-related products” for adult users. Absolutely feeling your frustration here! 🌿✊ As someone deeply entrenched in the cannabis industry, especially from a marketing perspective at a cannabis packaging company, the disparity in content regulation between cannabis and alcohol on social platforms is blatantly clear and, frankly, unfair. While we celebrate the creativity and success in the cocktail content realm, it's high time for a call to action for equal treatment in how cannabis-related content is managed. Our industry is regulated, legitimate, and responsible, yet our content is often shadowbanned or outright blocked—not just direct cannabis products but also ancillary services like packaging. Social platforms need to evolve with the times, recognizing that cannabis is not only legal in many areas but also used medicinally by millions. It's a call for balance, transparency in content regulation, and, most importantly, support for legitimate businesses just trying to navigate and succeed in this space. My friend KILLS it in the cocktail content creating space on Instagram and as a Social Media Specialist, I’m obviously extremely proud of her! But…how is it fair her videos get millions of views while my cannabis brands are permanently shadowbanned, hopefully seeing 30k views on a good day? Last time I checked, cannabis isn’t the one harming users 😅 Don’t get me wrong, this is not a cry for alcohol to be over regulated on the platform - but when will it be our turn?! #SocialMediaMarketing #CannabisCommunity
