Two heads are always better than one. Brilliant new chapter to Dragoman with Hermann Behrens. Creating new work, new processes, new offers, new clients and markets. Bring on 2025! (after we close off a successful 2024)
We learn to strive for bigger leadership roles in bigger companies to progress our careers. I spent 16 years at WPP as CEO of AME for Brand Union (now Design Bridge and Partners), CEO of North America for FITCH (now Landor), and then for Omnicom as Chief Growth Officer (NA) for Interbrand, so I have had my fair dose of big company leadership roles. Naturally, as I climbed the ladder, I got further and further away from the work and clients, instead spending my time with budgets and plans, convincing parents that we were good for the numbers, reducing costs, firing, and hiring. Joining Dragoman as an owner and partner has been a revelation. We decided to remain small enough for my partner Matthew Laubscher and me to lead the work with a select group of clients who are looking for brand transformation leaders to work intimately with them to make the change they need. It was scary at first, but it's been so fulfilling rolling up my sleeves, sharpening my skills, and doing breakthrough work for our partners. For those who are considering what to do next, you cannot underestimate the value of your extensive experience combined with skills sharpened by the need to deliver great work for clients. Independence is highly recommended! I might even find some time to work on the biceps so I can look like the dude below.
Haha, awesome! All the very best to you both.
