Every industry has its own jargon, but when brands assume everyone understands it, they risk leaving consumers behind. In healthcare, this can have serious consequences. Take "perimenopause”. For many women, the word is a mystery. What does "peri" even mean? It’s supposed to describe the transition before #menopause, but the term itself isn't clear. In our research at Hummingbird Insights, one of the most striking revelations is just how many women don’t recognise, understand, or identify with this word at all. The impact? Missed opportunities. If women don’t understand the term, they’re less likely to relate to the very campaigns that are aimed at them. Or may struggle to communicate effectively with healthcare providers. Brands need to bridge the gap between industry speak and everyday language. Perimenopause is here to stay, but the way we communicate about it needs to change. If we can raise awareness and simplify the language, we can help women feel more in control of their health - and make sure they get the support they need, when they need it. I love that we are FINALLY talking about this! But buyer beware. Along with all this exposure comes the misinformation and conflicting info. That's why it's important to find a source that will give you evidence 'informed' info as well as treatment agnostic solutions. Wait - that's She2.0! Your lighthouse in a sea of overwhelming info, lotions & potions. For a few years I've been so fortunate to work with experts and thought leaders in this women's health and wellness space. Just knowing the info I have learned has helped me on my own personal journey - and several doctor appointments!
