This year- the focus is on "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future". Congenital disability cannot be stopped but disability caused by unexploded ordnance sure can, in either situation, Human Rights are vital and it's up to each of us to stand in solidarity with one another to make the world safer and more inclusive. This means considering the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in all ascpects. As per the first article of the convention, the purpose of the present Convention is to promote, protect and ensure the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by all persons with disabilities, and to promote respect for their inherent dignity. Today, December 3, 2024: International Day of Persons with Disabilities This year’s theme, "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future," reminds us of the invaluable contributions that individuals with disabilities make in shaping a better world. 💪 As highlighted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, persons with disabilities often face the greatest challenges in times of global crisis but are too often excluded from creating solutions. Let’s change that by empowering their voices and leadership in our communities. At the same time, we’re also celebrating UK Disability History Month, a time to reflect on the strides made toward equality and the work still needed to break down barriers. Together, these observances inspire action for inclusion, respect, and opportunity for all. #IDPD2024

December 3 is International Day of People with Disabilities! Led by the United Nations, it is a day to build understanding about disability issues and rally support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of people with disabilities. António Guterres, Secretary-General for the United Nations, says communities around the world have people with disabilities who are changemakers, peacemakers, and leaders, and these leaders have the right to contribute to solutions toward an inclusive and sustainable future for everyone: “This includes recognizing the essential role of persons with disabilities in shaping the future of digital and assistive technologies — such as those powered by artificial intelligence — driving change across communities, and advocating for their rightful place in decision-making processes that affect their lives.” Read the full message: https://lnkd.in/gd8G9et Our communities are stronger when everyone’s voices are heard, their rights are respected, and their contributions are valued. Happy International Day of People with Disabilities!

Happy International Day of People with Disabilities! Hope to see our #AbilitiesExpo fam in Texas and Oklahoma at the Dallas Expo this weekend! [ID: White heading text on a purple background with a light purple border reads "Disabled people are the experts on disability." At the top, small white text reads "International Day of People With Disabilities" surrounded by a white line. The LCI logo is in the bottom right corner.] #repost @lavantconsulting —— Disabled people are the experts on disability — which is why the 2024 International Day of People with Disabilities theme is “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.” First established in 1992, the United Nations recognizes #IDPWD annually as a time to celebrate, learn, and act. Today, organizations should be looking for more ways to invite people with disabilities in as leaders as they strive for further equity.

Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Roughly 16% of the world’s population experiences a disability. It is important to note that not all disabilities are physical nor easy to recognize. Today, I spent extra time reflecting on how important fostering an inclusive environment and practicing empathy is in both my personal and professional life.
