CCW 2024 – Biggest Takeaways (Part 2) Made it back home from #CCWVegas, and after a very full and busy weekend (moms don’t stop), I'm still thinking about the amazing end to a great event. Dr. Radhika Dirks kicked things off with a provocative keynote on GenAI and the future of customer care: 🌊 Wave 1: An explosion of creativity but often disconnected from reality. Begging the question - what do humans uniquely bring to the table? 🌊Wave 2: In a world of illusions, we must navigate with intuition and ethical decision making. 🌊Wave 3: The race to intimacy, stressing values to attract the right opportunities, skills, and people. If you’re not following Radhika, she's a force, and you should. Microsoft unveiled its copilot-first Dynamics 365 Contact Center—curious to see more. Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, shared jaw-dropping workplace stats: 👨💼 Americans over 55 will fill nearly half of new jobs in the next decade. 👵 Biggest labor force growth will be among those 75+. 😲 1 in 5 employers report Gen Z job seekers bring mom and dad to interviews. Huh!? 📈 Wage inflation and changing remote work preferences among younger generations are creating new challenges. 🤗 IE&D (Inclusion, Equity, & Diversity) is evolving from DEI (focus on inclusion). 💗 People managers play the most crucial role in employee mental health. In the final breakout sessions, Lisa Strate shared how Purple takes a personalized approach to agent development and recognition. The room was packed and it's clear this topic is top of mind for so many. If scaling in this way interests you, reach out, Centrical can help. And Amin Lalani led a session on balancing automation with personalization in customer service for travel & hospitality. Amin emphasized the importance of "always augmenting" technology to put people first 👏 Delta Air Lines is more mature than many in leveraging AI, and use cases to enhance customer experience and employee growth were particularly impressive. If you missed part 1 of my #CCWVegas experience, check out my article (link in comments) to see takeaways from Lance Gruner, Brent R.C. Nelson, Brad Utter, Christopher Lobley, MBA, Ryan Collins, Lori Bradshaw, Angie Bastian, and Jon Taffer.

Happy Friday LinkedIn! So, I could add another “been a while since I posted” excuse here but then I do think you can overshare sometimes? It doesn’t mean that we haven’t been busy though, and like all other businesses we are continuing to navigate all the changes / diversions / road blocks that are being placed in front of us as we grow regardless of the challenges. Keeping that car analogy, I’m keen to share our experience in our journey from Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0—a transformation that goes beyond technology for profit to focus on people-centricity, sustainability, and resilience. Following our intro blog last week, we cover what the 3 additional pillars mean to our business. In the latest blog, I reflect on how this gear shift isn’t just about advancing tech; it’s about creating a people centric approach to using new technology whilst being resilient enough to navigate whatever the road ahead throws at us. Like an adaptive suspension system, resilience is key—strengthening our ability to handle challenges while staying firmly on the right road regardless of the conditions. This next phase blends evolving technology with human creativity, ensuring that our growth is responsible and sustainable. With people firmly in the driving seat, we’re committed to shaping a future where technology supports humanity, not the other way around. I have been at a few events presenting on this recently (and taking selfies) so if you'd like you can read my reflections here about how we’re “shifting into 5th” with Industry 5.0 Booth Welsh Workplace Innovation Europe @Bridges 5.0 https://lnkd.in/eCieP-Xz

That’s a wrap for #NatCon24. Our team had a fantastic time presenting at the poster session. A few conference takeaways for me: 1. Lean into what you love at work. Those things that you really love to do at work - do them more often. For me it’s leaning more into the creative brainstorming space and connecting data stories. 2. Design approaches and care with the human experience first. Technology is a wonderful asset and it helps us work better, but we are human first. User experience matters in the workplace and for those we serve. 3. Executives and upper management need to pay attention and protect culture. If we’re expecting our managers to address culture and hold staff accountable, we also need to hold our peers accountable. Being a good culture keeper builds trust, helps retain employees, and opens up dialogue to build stronger organizations. If you attended #NatCon24, what are your takeaways? #thechildrensguild #mentalhealth #children #behavioralhealth #learning #nationalcouncil

When you look at the attached photo, think about this: Fire stations that have fire fighters who eat together outperform fire fighters who don't eat together. Let's not forget that in this age of The Fragmented Zoomathon. A table where people break bread together has long been transformational. The reason the nation's capitol is in Washington D.C. is because of a compromise made over dinner at Thomas Jefferson's table. The modern Olympics came into fruition through a series of backchannel meals. Conversations between Sergey Brin and Larry Page in Stanford's dining halls led to the creation of Google. Everybody understands the power of a transformational table. The dinner in the accompanying photo was hosted by Frank Congiu on behalf of Randstad, a premier recruiting and staffing agency. The Chief Human Resources Officers of some of the most influential companies in America are at the table. You can tell that I have never worked in a human resources department because I'm the only person at the table wearing a red fedora. I was very appreciative of Frank's inclusion. You can see him smiling two people up the table from me. Across from him is Chester Elton, author of Leading with Gratitude: Eight Leadership Practices for Extraordinary Business Results. It was Chester who told us about the research on fire stations. If not for the dinner, I never would've become friendly with Chester. He has a lot more to say about people coming together to do their best work on my podcast this week. If you'd like to hear it, there's a link to Big Questions in the comments. Listen, and you, too, will be connected to a transformational evening. Something else happened that night which could never have happened anywhere else at just that time. As the guests trickled into the dining room in downtown New York, I met Sofia Lamuraglia, the Director of Leadership at IBM. Our conversation was a hello. It had no agenda. But I learned that she is from South America, and she told me about a moment when she connected with New York City through the sight of the Empire State Building. It made me see Manhattan in a way that I'd never seen it before, and I've walked almost every one of its streets. It also helped answer a question I'd been scratching my head over for more than 30 years. I doubt that kind of serendipity ever happened in a Fragmented Zoomathon. If it has, please let me know. If not, you might want to find some serendipity over dinner. Cheers!
