When earthquakes happen, they not only can change the landscape of the area where they occur, but the lives of the residents who occupy the land. 2024 has brought 14 earthquakes of a magnitude of 4 or higher to California, greater than the yearly state average of 8. With awareness in disaster preparedness from Tzu Chi USA and Listos California, community members can have safety skills if ever at risk for losing their homes and loved ones from such a natural disaster. By staying informed with an earthquake alert system, of proper earthquake drills, and on where safety shelters are located, one can lead in ways of disaster readiness, response, and recovery for an earthquake to benefit their households and neighborhood. For further information on earthquake preparedness, check the annual Great Shake Out event this October 17th and participate with millions of people worldwide.
