#Culture is the foundation for everything. And yet, #Leaders, #Managers, #HR often only focus on it when something goes wrong. ❌ 70% of business transformations fail and culture is one of the biggest drivers (McKinsey, 2021) 🚶♂️ 20% of people leave owing to poor culture (and this costs a lot!) (SHRM, 2019) 💷 Companies with thriving cultures deliver 21% more profit (Bersin, 2023) Manage culture as your most valuable asset, the rest will follow. 4 powerful insights from Dave Ulrich on The Modern People Leader ⬇️ 1️⃣ HR’s True Purpose: Adding Value to Customers & Investors HR shouldn't just focus on internal programs. Dave emphasizes adopting an "outside-in" approach—aligning HR strategies with the needs of your company's customers and investors. After all, without success in the marketplace, there's no workplace to manage. 2️⃣ Return on Intangibles: Dave says the real ROI of HR is “Return on Intangibles.” Ideas, skills, and leadership drive 80% of a company’s value. Human capability (talent, organization, leadership) deserves the same attention as financials in every board meeting. Examples? Higher P/E ratios from investor perceptions and massive revenue boosts linked to employee engagement. 3️⃣ Know Your Execs’ KPIs: HR leaders need to start meetings by understanding the goals of their fellow executives. What’s driving their KPIs, and how can HR help them succeed? At one company, they closed an $8 billion gap in their price-earnings by involving investors and customers directly in leadership programs, hiring, and 360 reviews. 4️⃣ Dave encourages all HR leaders to reflect with these four questions: 1. What do you want? 2. Who do you serve? 3. How are you building? 4. Where are you on your journey? Regularly revisiting these can transform your leadership journey for the better. ____ 🔔 Get more insights like this delivered directly to your inbox. Your organisation is falling behind if it isn't taking advantage of multigenerational teams. Between the organisations I have worked with and consulted, I have seen this first-hand! There are 5 generations in the workforce now, each with their own skill sets and experience. By leveraging these groups, companies can tap into enhanced creativity and innovation, improved decision-making, increased talent acquisition and retention, and enhanced organisational agility and adaptability. From my consulting experience, I've observed four key hindrances that have resulted in missed growth opportunities and a loss of sight regarding the true underlying issues affecting employee engagement and productivity. Identifying these challenges requires an objective perspective, as they can be difficult to recognise internally. Through a thorough discovery process, I've found that shedding light on these blind spots is crucial for progress. Having those difficult conversations with my clients serves as catalysts for transformation if my clients aim to build a sustainable, high-performance organisation.
