Public service announcement: If your business name includes “365,” there is a segment of your target audience that will immediately convert that to “3-6-9” and recall this little jam from Lil’ Jon. Why? Because our brains are set to autopilot and we’re always looking for a reason to recall it. Marketing language is important. And understanding words’ meaning to you is valuable. But also understanding how they can possibly be interpreted or misinterpreted is essential. My favorite question to ask my German colleagues is “is this English for America, or the world?” Anticipating the best, and the worst, ensures that you avoid unintended negative connotations.
