Review Overnight Reports and Emails (15 minutes) - Check for any critical updates, alerts, or notifications from suppliers, logistics providers, or team members. - Scan emails for urgent matters or changes in demand forecasts. 2. Demand Forecast Review (15 minutes) - Examine the previous day's sales data and compare it to forecasts. - Identify trends, anomalies, or changes that may impact inventory levels. 3. Inventory Position Review (15 minutes) - Check current inventory levels, including stock on hand, in transit, and on order. - Identify potential stockouts, overstocking, or other issues. 4. During my internship, I had the privilege to work in a dynamic environment where: Fill rates consistently hit 98.5-99%. 4-hour upstream window with negligible inventory discrepancy. Automated robots and human teamwork ensured efficiency and precision. Key drivers: Inbound Cartel Tracking: Ensuring efficient vendor relationships and data accuracy. Lean Replenishments: Optimizing travel time and reducing movements per unit. Order Fulfillment: Managing high-volume orders for TSC stores, 3PL vendors, and direct customers. Digital Commerce taking the front step with 100% SLA adherence matching the fierce sales uphill in order fulfillment handling freight movement across multiple touchpoints within the DC. Inventory Control: Analyzing shrinkage and ensuring system accuracy with the physical count. Everything Inventory management    Let us talk about the incredible session we had with Mbongiseni Skosana   This session had me look at the field from a different type of view. I always knew that supply chain and logistics had many options, but I never thought it was that diverse. I got to hear/learn from a young industry professional who is an inventory management assistant.     His story is inspiring, he made me realize that most of us who chose this field are similar. Mbongiseni said he chose Logistics not really knowing the gist of it all.  However, he stayed simply because it was challenging for him. (Challenging in terms of keeping him on his feet). This is basically the same as me.     Many topics were discussed in this session  He mentioned that this field needs:  -Someone who is willing to work  -One should be detail orientated  -You need to think on your feet to make effective decisions  -He emphasized on being mathematical able, because you will be crunching numbers everyday  -You need to be mentally and physically fit  -Your everyday job will be to reduce costs  One thing that sticks with me, that he mentioned was: “You need to know who you are, be true to yourself and what you stand for. Then teach others how to work with you”. Because working with people is difficult. During my Internship as a General Manager, I gained valuable experience collaborating with a team of a dozen employees on improving operations, inventory management, customer service, and community outreach for a local business. The focus of my internship was to learn how to improve business operations and use inventory management systems to improve food costs. This involved creating spreadsheets on current inventory and forecasting future inventory to work within food cost goals while keeping up with the flow of goods throughout the business to project future orders. In my role as General Manager, I worked with the corporate office on improving company policies and procedures, built relationships with the community, focused on community engagement, and fixed bottom-line operations to eliminate waste. I got to work on Local Store Marketing to help drive sales by over 20% while focusing on the schools and the churches to help build brand awareness. In doing so we used social media and in-person visits to local businesses to build relationships with potential customers and promote our brand. The in-house focus for the General Manager was to make sure the business achieved its food cost, labor, and sales goals while following company policies and procedures. In doing so I needed to make sure all the employees were professionally trained and oversee the product correctly. In my time with the business, our food costs were drastically improved through proper inventory management and weekly counts of products. Every item was portioned to be used in a specific way that would help the business stay within the food cost goals and to stay within the labor costs goals I would project future sales using the POS system to make weekly schedules that stayed within our 14-16 percent labor target. During my internship, I learned how to use data to manage the flow of inventory and manage the operations of a business. The General Manager would source all the goods for the business, making sure the business got the best quality and pricing around. I would use our in-house POS system to help with distribution to customers to ensure our speed of service was top quality. My experience as a General Manager was extremely helpful, showing me the ins and outs of top-line operations and inventory management. I was able to learn how to oversee the operations of a business with a dozen employees and learn how to use data analysis for purchasing, sourcing, and inventory management. The tools that I learned for my internship will help me throughout my journey in supply chain and have helped me fine-tune my skills to prepare myself for the next chapter in my career. #UTDBSSCM and #hireJSOM
