😲😲 I've always wondered how goods get delivered to people all over the world still in right condition., from groceries, flowers, cars, name it!!! So, I piqued interest in supply chain Management. 📌This is the first course, and it has deepened my understanding of various aspect of supply chain logistics, the intricacies of transportation, warehousing design, inventory, and latest technology advancement in the field. 📌 I'm excited to leverage these new skills to drive efficiency and innovation in the supply chain industry. while on it, I'm equally available for internship to get hands on experience. #supplychainmanagement #logistics #professionaldevelopment #UPS #FEDEX #coursera

Internship Highlight: Supply Chain Ops at Tractor Supply Company Thrilled to share my incredible journey at Tractor Supply in Frankfort, NY! During my internship, I had the privilege to work in a dynamic environment where: Fill rates consistently hit 98.5-99%. 4-hour upstream window with negligible inventory discrepancy. Automated robots and human teamwork ensured efficiency and precision. Key drivers: Inbound Cartel Tracking: Ensuring efficient vendor relationships and data accuracy. Lean Replenishments: Optimizing travel time and reducing movements per unit. Order Fulfillment: Managing high-volume orders for TSC stores, 3PL vendors, and direct customers. Digital Commerce taking the front step with 100% SLA adherence matching the fierce sales uphill in order fulfillment handling freight movement across multiple touchpoints within the DC. Inventory Control: Analyzing shrinkage and ensuring system accuracy with the physical count. Big shoutout to the amazing leadership and team for fostering a culture of safety, continuous learning, and innovation. 🚀 #SupplyChain #Internship #Innovation #Teamwork #TractorSupply #Efficiency #Automation #Leadership #Safety #DigitalCommerce #Retail

Our Supply Chain and Operations Club (SCOC) had the privilege of hosting Arvind Nayar (Global Supply Chain Planner), Ryan Dalrymple (Global Supply Chain Planner), and Sam Powell (SCALE Planner and Former SCO President). Students got to see internship and full-time opportunities in the Medtech industry. Students also got to see the day-to-day of planning supply chains on a global scale. 💡 Key Takeaways: - The complexities of a global supply chain - Just-in-time deliveries for hospitals (hospitals do not hold or stock inventory) - The movement of materials through plants, distribution centers, and finally customers - Reorder point and safety stocks are always changing 🌎 🔗 #SupplyChain #OperationsManagement #Leadership #StudentSuccess #MedTech

Already spoke about Logistics. Today let us talk supply chain management (SCM) It involves overseeing the flow of goods, information, and finances as they move from supplier to manufacturer to wholesaler to retailer to consumer. It is crucial because it enhances efficiency, reduces costs, improves quality, and ensures timely delivery, ultimately leading to higher customer satisfaction and competitive advantage. One wiseman would say, supply chain management is all about effectiveness and efficiency.😂 Would you like to delve deeper into any specific aspect of SCM? ________________________________ Hi again, my name is Praise Mthombeni. It has been an enriching experience so far in my summer internship. Warehouse logistics is a challenging front , specially when you operate in Just in time model. Continuous replenishment and dispatch complicates warehouse management. It's been an experience filled with new learnings as I got to work on the most challenging dimensions of warehouse logistics - Space optimization, Efficient layouting and maintaining FIFO. ✨Below are my key learnings so far 👇 🏭Space optimization and efficient layouting: 🚀KPIs: % storage utilisation, % operational aisle utilisation, order cycle time, average forklift distance movement, pickup and drop times, average accessibility factor, space fit efficiency. 🚀 In a scenario where warehouse faces space crunch, production rate fluctuates a lot and dispatch rate is not predictable, we need to develop dynamic layout according to current trends. 🚀 Redundancies and space inefficiencies should be eradicated ASAP. 🚀 Layout should follow the current demand pull trend, SKUs with higher demand pull should be nearer to dispatch. It reduces average forklift distance coverage. 🚀 Accessibility is inversely proportional to utilisation and therefore an optimised tradeoff is required. 🏭FIFO: KPIs: FIFO picking accuracy, FIFO flow break, FIFO maintain probability factor. 🚀 Maintaining FIFO in an environment with high dispatch rate, container design constraints, no defined coordinates for storage becomes a major challenge and it requires lot of team effort. 🚀 Real time tracking is the key. Stock levels tracking, dispatch flow tracking, accurate labelling, visibility and effective communication are required to facilitate dispatch of SKUs in perfect FIFO manner 🚀 A layout with high accessibility which can be achieved by allocating highest possible bays to one SKU, can be very effective in maintaining FIFO. 👇Below is a glimpse of my project outcomes so far. It includes revised capacity allocation, metrics to track FIFO and Layout modification. P.S: To uphold company's Data privacy and confidentiality policy, Data presented below is not authentic and is a dummy presentation. #WarehouseOptimization #SupplyChain #Logistics #KPIs #FIFO #DataAnalytics #MBAInternship

✨ Intern Spotlight: Soumya Kolluru ✨ In the Department of Supply Chain Management, experiential learning is the foundation of everything we do and a core reason why our students are well-equipped for the supply chain industry upon graduation. With that, every student majoring in Supply Chain Management is required to intern with a company to gain real, hands-on work experience. Today we check in with Soumya and her role with Walmart as an Area Manager Intern at Distribution Center 6047 in Bedford, Pennsylvania: Q: What is the best part of being an intern? A: The best part of being an intern is being given the opportunity to be able to learn and absorb as much information as possible. You can learn so much more doing the job compared to learning from a textbook. It is a great honor to have a voice from a fresh perspective and make an impact on business decisions. Q: How has your supply chain management classes prepared you for the internship? A: My supply chain management classes have prepared me for this job by teaching me a bunch of concepts and terminology to be able to have a good foundation and speak educated in meetings. Whether I am talking about inventory checking processes or simple inbound and outbound terms, Walton College SCMT classes have shaped me for this moment. I am also able to take conversations discussed in class and apply it to business practices. Q: What is some advice you would give other students that are about to start an internship? A: Do not be afraid to insert yourself into work conversations and always ask questions even if you think they are dumb. Sometimes it can be challenging to assert yourself as an intern, but usually people want to help if you just ask. On top of that, make sure to network and use your resources as much as possible. #SupplyChainU

Studying Logistics and Supply Chain Management (Almost done... phew!), and here are a couple of key insights I've picked up from internships, lectures, and personal observations: 1. Cost reduction alone won’t solve capacity limits or rising prices. Factors like inflation, fuel prices, and higher wages continue to push logistics spending up, which can take up to 80% of total supply chain costs. It's crucial to optimize, but it's tricky when budgets are tight. 2. Logistics managers need to understand the difference between cutting costs and optimizing costs. Cost-cutting might mean negotiating better rates, while optimization could be about streamlining operations to remove waste. The best companies mix both strategies for long-term success. Finding a balance between controlling costs and keeping great service is the key to success in supply chain management!
