I’m asking you to Help Shape North Florida’s Transportation Future Final Citizen Survey, which closes August 30 Transportation improvements are needed to keep our economy moving by road, sea, rail and air. As part of its regional transportation planning the North Florida TPO is conducting the final survey for the 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). Every five years, the North Florida TPO revises the area’s transportation plan which has a 20–25-year horizon and addresses roads, transit, freight, bike and pedestrian needs as well as technology for our growing region. Citizen insight and feedback are crucial as the TPO develops a comprehensive plan that meets the diverse needs of our community. In the two previous surveys, citizens helped identify key transportation priorities and challenges. The TPO has incorporated citizen feedback into the initial stages of the planning process. This final survey focuses on specific proposals and initiatives that have been developed based on earlier feedback and detailed technical analyses. As the TPO finalizes the LRTP, we need citizen help once again to refine our strategies and ensure they align with the community's vision for a safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation network. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation released its final report Nov. 27 on the potential for establishing east-west passenger rail service from Boston to Greenfield and North Adams, Massachusetts, across the northern part of the state.   The report builds on a 2021 MassDOT study, along with efforts from Gov. Maura Healey and the state Legislature, to quickly move forward with plans for improved passenger rail transportation serving communities beyond the state’s larger cities.   The 112-page report outlines six potential options. It recommends further research and planning on the rail choices while also looking at lower-cost alternatives such as intercity bus service. disappointing lack of mention for walking or cycling in these priorities. Maybe they are "greener transport" but i'd argue that is stretching the definition. Safe and equitable access to options for active travel are key to so much, from decarbonisation, to safe communities, access to opportunities & healthier kids. A sustainable future sits on a bedrock of active travel and public transport.
