📶MNOs are moving forward with their 5G SA plans, but many are ensuring that business cases are well developed before making further investments. 5G Mobile Core (5GC) did not showcase the killer applications? 🤔 While the potential of 5G SA is undeniable, the immediate, tangible benefits aren't always clear-cut. Some reasons why MNOs are proceeding with caution: 👉Lack of Killer Applications- The "killer app" that will fully justify the massive investments in 5G SA infrastructure hasn't quite materialized yet. While there are promising use cases in areas like IoT, AR/VR, autonomous vehicles, their widespread adoption & commercial viability are still evolving 👉Technical Challenges: Implementing 5G SA requires significant network upgrades & new technologies. Ensuring interoperability, security, & performance can be complex & costly 👉RoI: The business case for 5G SA needs to be compelling. MNOs are carefully evaluating the potential revenue streams, cost savings, & competitive advantages before making substantial investments 👉Consumer Adoption: The success of 5G SA depends on consumer demand. If users don't see the value or benefits, it will be difficult to justify the associated costs ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 📶But MNOs are comfortable with 4G EPC integrating with 5G RAN. Why do MNOs really need 5GC? 🤔 While it's true that many MNOs are initially leveraging their existing 4G EPC infrastructure to support 5G RAN functionalities, 5GC offers several distinct advantages that make it a worthwhile investment in long run. Thank you Kanesh, very useful information - many operator have launched 5G compatible services (alias 5G NSA, eg 4G core + some RBS) - very few operators have started the journey of 5G SA - 5G require to address OPEX with automation (the assumption made for move to the world of 5G). AI is now the catalytic element - eMBB is the only use case implemented. The other mMTC, uRLLC are not addressed as require a DC layering (MEC). The 3 layers DC that as bug-fixing are done via hyperscalers without e2e orchestrator. - 5G SA challenges are on business model and application that require investment on network slice, automation system, lifecycle management (OSS/BSS integration) for be able to create right balance between revenue e services differentiation.
