A survey of 100 industry managers in the manufacturing, mining and forest industries found that more than 50% of digitalization initiatives in Sweden are still in the planning and pilot stages. Despite facing prolonged innovation cycles, business leaders tell us they are right on the threshold of scaling up. NorthStar 5G Innovation program by Telia and Ericsson provides the extra push to help companies go from proof of concept to market-ready solutions. Typically, the process of deploying new functionality in public networks is a lengthy process, involving integration with many other network and IT elements. What makes the NorthStar network unique is that the latest 5G enablers, productified by Ericsson, will be deployed immediately and made available exclusively to partners at any location in Sweden. With a 5G environment like no other in the world, NorthStar gives Swedish organizations a unique head start in developing, testing and monetizing new advanced solutions. What did I learn from the latest Ericsson Networks newsletter? 🤔 What are 3 main challenges service providers might face when adopting an #OpenRAN? 💡 What are feasible solutions for these challenges? 💪 How can Ericsson help with solving them? It’s no secret that networks of the future must be resilient, open, sustainable, and intelligent. Open RAN has the potential to shape such networks. This is another exciting example of how connectivity can be used in new and sometimes unexpected ways with great value for society.   Microwave links can be found wherever there are cell towers and base stations, and in total there are several million links in operation around the world. Each of these can function both as a transmitter for mobile connectivity and as a rain gauge.   With this microwave data, @3 Sverige and @Ericsson enable @SMHI (Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute) to create a real-time map showing how much it rains in different places, something that is not currently possible with traditional weather radar systems. Last week, I had an insightful discussion with Doctor Usama Nouri on innovation, leadership, AI, experience, and young people. When addressing the biggest obstacle for innovation, I emphasized the issue feeling not being empowered. In my view, the term 'empowered' can sometimes imply waiting for permission rather than proactively seizing opportunities. To drive innovation, one must embrace the mindset that being empowered equates to being too slow. (My motto: If you are on time, you are late!) It's crucial not to fear failure and avoid risks while waiting to be empowered.
