Had the honor of attending the Indefinite Reenlistment ceremony for SFC Dylan Rodriguez today. Dylan has led the Evans Army Community Hospital Emergency Department for nearly two years time with grace and efficiency. Our ED sees upwards of 200 patients daily, servicing our over 72,000 beneficiaries. SFC Rodriquez and his beautiful wife and child are preparing to move on to their next chapter this next summer back to the East Coast and I could not be more proud of him. As my “final out” date draws ever closer, it’s people like Dylan who remind me that the Army is in good hands and its future is bright. #stayarmystrong

UNDERSTANDING AND TREATING TBI IN THE MILITARY Don't miss our conversation with Carlos Williams, MD, MPH, MBA on WarDocs- The Military Medicine Podcast Lots of great stuff..... LEARN ABOUT 1. Pioneering Care for Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI): The National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICOE) at Walter Reed is at the forefront of treating traumatic brain injuries in military personnel. Using an interdisciplinary approach and cutting-edge diagnostic tools such as CT scans, MRIs, and magnetoencephalography, NICOE has made significant strides in understanding and treating TBIs since its establishment in 2010. 2. Holistic Treatment Approaches: Beyond traditional medical treatments, NICOE incorporates non-traditional pathways such as art, music, dance therapy, and gardening into their care model. This holistic approach acknowledges the complex interplay between physical and psychological health, particularly for conditions like PTSD and major depression that often accompany TBI. 3. Role of Pediatric Care in Military Medicine: Pediatric care is a critical component of the military health system. Military personnel's families, including children, are integral beneficiaries of the system, underscoring the need for specialized pediatric care within military medical facilities. 4. Lessons from Pandemic Responses: Consistent preparedness is essential for effective pandemic response. Experiences from previous pandemics, including recent ones, highlight the importance of maintaining readiness and continuously funding capabilities to handle both natural and potentially engineered pandemics. 5. Significance of Prevention and Research: The military is actively working on preventative measures for TBI, such as baselining before training and exploring biomarkers for early diagnosis. Ongoing research is crucial to develop effective prevention strategies and enhance treatment outcomes for those affected by TBI and associated conditions.

Jonathan's compelling testimony about H. Pylori testing in military healthcare has evolved from a personal story into a catalyst for systemic change. His experience, initially featured in our first advocacy letter, highlighted a critical gap in preventive care for service members. This narrative has now strengthened our latest initiative, where DDF and 14 partner organizations have formally requested the Department of Defense to implement H. Pylori testing protocols for military service members. Our October 18 letter to the Senate and House Armed Services Committee leaders demonstrates how individual experiences can shape policy discussions. Jonathan's powerful question - "Why are we playing Monday morning quarterback on what we should have done five years ago?" - reminds us that preventive healthcare isn't just about statistics; it's about proactive measures that protect real lives. See how personal advocacy transforms into policy action! https://lnkd.in/ebxZ2ZKJ #HealthcarePolicy #MilitaryHealth #PreventiveCare #PatientAdvocacy

In behavioral healthcare, it’s important to think of the unique needs of Veterans, one of our country’s most vulnerable populations. Today, on the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, we want to emphasize how important it is for Veterans to have access to clinically excellent behavioral healthcare services. Our Military & Family Support team supports and advocates for thousands of Veterans by connecting them with specialized, high-quality care. 🤷♂️ Would #militaryfamilies like to retain their Medicaid access for children with special needs when they move? 🚀Absolutely! #EFMP and SNP families need all the supports they require that exceeds the ability of the military to provide. 🚚Before, families in states with little to no waiver wait lists would lose services upon #PCS to states with long wait lists. 👩⚖️This proposed legislation would close some of these gaps in service - but not all of them. Members moving between states with long wait lists may never have a chance to take advantage of Medicaid. 🏥More work needs to be done…improve #TRICARE ECHO, increase the number of states that allow transitioning military members to enter the wait list prior to establishing residence, or maybe create a military Medicaid wait list to insert families into the state wait list based on date. #militaryspouse

Keller Army Community Hospital is utilizing ‘Scheduled Virtual Visits’ on My Military Health – for some beneficiary appointments. My Military Health Virtual Visits is replacing the current MHS Video Connect system as your new platform for virtual care. Scheduled Virtual Visits offer the same high-quality care you expect from an in-person visit from a location that’s convenient and comfortable for you. Virtual video appointments allow you to see your care team without having to take time off work, juggle child or elder care issues, and saves travel time and expense. All documentation related to a virtual video visit will be captured in your chart in MHS GENESIS. Please be aware that virtual video appointments are not recorded. If you choose to have an in-person visit, this option is still available. This is not a change in healthcare, but an evolution in healthcare to better serve the Greater West Point community and our beneficiaries.
