The participation in the management of public affairs, which encompasses the entitlement to vote and run for office, lies at the heart of democratic governments that are founded on the consent of the governed. Authentic Elections are an essential and fundamental element of a framework that safeguards and advances human rights. The right to cast a vote and be elected in legitimate and regular elections is inherently connected to various other Human Rights, the enjoyment of which is vital for a significant electoral procedure. Democracy relies heavily on elections as they serve as the fundamental pillar, enabling individuals to actively participate in Public Affairs The recent election in Chad, that saw the emergence and eventual transformation of a Junta into a Civilian role is a challenge to democracy as there is the fear that the junta's of Burkina Faso, Niger and Gabon will follow suit, there by betraying the anus of effective democracy. it is therefore imperative for States to have Strong Institutions that can uphold democratic rules and preserve the sanctity of elections.

🇧🇴PEACEFUL ELECTIONS FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE🇧🇴 Let's make tomorrow's elections a celebration of our democracy and peace. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and future generations. Let's choose peace and unity for a brighter Ghana. As Kofi Annan once said, "democracy is progress in and of itself, because freedom is development too". Ghana has made significant strides in democracy, earning a reputation as a peaceful nation. To ensure peaceful elections, let's remember the importance of: - *Inclusive and transparent elections*: ensuring every citizen has a voice and a vote. - *Responsible media reporting*: promoting accuracy, objectivity, and impartiality. - *Tolerance and respect*: urging political parties and supporters to refrain from abusive language and violence. - *Security agencies' professionalism*: ensuring they remain impartial and protect journalists and citizens. Let's work together to make Ghana's elections a success! #GhanaDecides #PeacefulElections #DemocracyInAction #FreedomIsDevelopment #PeaceAndUnityForGhana #BrighterFutureForGhana"

From Open Secrets ZA : Public debate around a Universal Basic Income Grant (UBIG) has focused on fierce disagreements about its economic benefits, whether it is financially feasible for South Africa, and if so, what the value of the grant should be. As UBIG campaigning takes centre stage in the 2024 elections, Open Secrets asks an equally important but often overlooked question: who will administer the payment of those grants? https://lnkd.in/dUMb4VuM

The Ondo State elections have come and gone, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to the people of Ondo State for their peaceful participation. The elections were relatively peaceful, and we commend all stakeholders—citizens, security forces, and election officials—for their efforts in ensuring a smooth and orderly process. All political parties and candidates signed the Ondo State Peace Accord, committing to uphold both the letter and spirit of the agreement. We call on all parties to continue adhering to the principles of peace, fairness, and democratic integrity, as outlined in the Accord, particularly Clause 2 - To accept and abide by the outcome of the 2024 Ondo State Gubernatorial Elections, and if issues should arise, I will deploy constitutional means and appeal to the courts, rather than other unconstitutional means - which emphasizes the importance of maintaining peace and unity in the post-election period. We urge everyone to respect the Peace Accord and work together to preserve the peaceful atmosphere, ensuring the greater good of Ondo State and Nigeria as a whole. #NPC4Peace #TKC4Peace #Ondo4Peace #EU4DemocracyNG

Ghana, let's take a deep breath and look beyond the surface. This year's election is more complex than just NPP vs NDC. There are underlying tensions and concerns that need attention. The upcoming elections have raised suspicions and mistrust among the public, with some accusing the Electoral Commission of bias. The opposition NDC has also alleged that the ruling NPP plans to rig the elections. In this charged atmosphere,it's essential to be mindful of our words and actions. Let's avoid getting caught up in sentimental debates and arguments fueled by tribal or political affiliations. Instead, let's focus on promoting peace, inclusivity and respect for the democratic process. Remember,Ghana's stability and progress depend on our collective ability to navigate these complex issues with wisdom and maturity. #GhanaFirst

In May 2023, APHR organized a fact-finding mission in Indonesia to assess the threats to fundamental freedoms during the lead-up to the 2024 general elections. This was the second in a series of three missions that are part of the APHR’s commitment to the Internet Freedom Initiative together with ARTICLE 19 and its partners. IFI aims to promote online freedom of expression and access to information, support civil society, influence government policies, and build collaborative networks among diverse stakeholders. Emerging problems brought about by the digital age, such as the rise of disinformation, also undermine the quality of democratic discourse, especially during electoral campaigns, in online spaces. The key findings in this report, if not urgently addressed, may impact the overall freeness of the electoral process. It is therefore imperative for the government and election management bodies to review policies found to have provisions that restrict fundamental freedoms and develop protection mechanisms to allow for these freedoms to thrive online, providing the space for balanced, informative, and constructive discussions about the electoral process.
