Here’s a fact that might surprise you: only 0.3% of the U.S. workforce is enrolled in an apprenticeship. Compare that to 3.6% in Switzerland or 2.3% in Germany, and it’s clear we’ve got some catching up to do. At IPC, we’re making strides in the electronics manufacturing sector with apprenticeship programs designed to build foundational skills and adapt to new technologies. Our first year has been a success, with 100 apprentices already in action, and we’re piloting high school pre-apprenticeships to grow the talent pipeline even further. Apprenticeships work. The data proves it. Let’s double down and make them a cornerstone of U.S. workforce development. https://bit.ly/3OvjACM

Wishing everyone getting their A/AS Level results the best of luck. The pressure to get good grades nowadays can be intense and I wanted to share a reminder that there are different routes for everyone to take after school and plenty of fantastic career options available. Apprenticeships, for example, are a great option that give people the opportunity to earn money while learning key skills on the job, as well as providing hands on training and mentorship to those starting out in the world of work. Some of the most successful people in business even started learning about their trades as an apprentice, including Jamie Oliver, Stella McCartney and Karren Brady. I work alongside our brilliant apprentices across our technology and engineering roles and many of my talented colleagues across the business started off learning their skills through an apprenticeship. I see first-hand the amazing opportunities they offer into technology and engineering careers and I’d love to see more women encouraged to take the apprenticeship route into these areas – something that I believe could really help bridge the gender gap into these more typically male-dominated careers. It would be really great to share more apprenticeship success stories for anyone excited to start an apprenticeship or feeling a bit lost this week – please tell me about your apprenticeship experiences in the comments below 👇 👇

National Apprenticeship Week is coming up! When I first started at Ivy Tech and someone mentioned "apprentice" my mind pictured a medieval blacksmith. How ignorant I was! In reality, there are thousands of apprenticeship programs which combine on-the-job training with formal learning to skill up talent. How can an apprenticeship program help you as an employer? That’s a very simple answer with an impressive number. The US Department of Labor (DOL) reports that in 2023, 90% of apprentices retained employment with their sponsor company after program completion! According to www.apprenticeship.gov, the ripple effects can lower recruiting costs, improve productivity and enhance the problem-solving ability of your staff. Want to learn more? Ivy Tech can walk you through how to get started, serve as your training provider, and may even be able to help with some grant funding to kickstart your program. #ivytech #apprentice

Why are we still treating apprenticeships like the 'second choice'? It's time to recognise their real value. I started my career as an apprentice in the Travel industry. Worked my way up to store manager in 7 years. Then pivoted to business development in the Apprenticeship and training industry. Now, I work with endpoint assessment organisations, training providers, and universities. Helping them through our endpoint assessment platform, ACE360. And I see the incredible potential of apprenticeships every day. They are not just an alternative to university. They are a path to success. Apprenticeships taught me: → The value of handson experience. → The importance of realworld skills. → The power of commitment and loyalty. So why do we still see them as 'second choice'? Let's change the narrative. Let's celebrate the achievements of apprentices. And let's recognise their true value. To all the apprentices out there, keep going. Your journey is just as valuable. And to decisionmakers in education and businesses, let's invest in apprenticeships. Give them the recognition they deserve. Have a story about your apprenticeship? Share it in the comments.
