🤔Can apprenticeships promote social mobility in the UK? Although university is an obvious choice for most, for many it feels like something that’s not for them. Be it for fear of financial debt, academic access or lack of representation from people like them attending higher education. Apprenticeships as a way to learn and earn can help champion diversity in the workplace. Alright, there's definitely a shift happening with degree apprenticeships. As I speak to more students. I begin to realise how apprenticeships went from a frowned-upon to highly desired option. So much so that many students are now applying to university as a “second option”. As securing a degree apprenticeship becomes a priority. But it’s not easy. Getting a degree apprenticeship is highly competitive. With most degree apprenticeships offered by larger firms only having an acceptance rate of 10%. Meaning that for every 10 applicants that apply, only one secures the role. Which is lower than leading universities such as Oxford and Cambridge. So as apprenticeship applications heat up. Here is one piece of advice: ↳ Do your research. Companies value individuals who take the time to research their organisation and industry. How does the company work? What are the current industry challenges and trends? What makes this apprenticeship scheme different? You need to convey a genuine interest in each application you make. And remember. Recruiters can easily identify applicants with a drive. ↳And those who aren’t fully invested... Good luck! 🤞 💭 How difficult is it to secure a degree apprenticeship in 2024?

After an incredible two days at Connected Britain, exhibiting with The Institute of Telecommunications Professionals (ITP) team, I’m finally giving my feet a rest after walking 30,000 steps. Thankfully, we were well-prepared with blister plasters! One key takeaway from the event from speaking with attendees and listening to the insightful panel discussions, was the growing concern around digital skills and how the industry is addressing this persistent challenge.
