There are so many misconceptions when it comes to Hospice care. As a result, many who might benefit from hospice care, don’t sign up until the very end. Based on article by Paul Spencer Scott, a writer for Surviving Alzheimer’s: Practical Tips & Soul-Saving Wisdom for Caregivers, here’s what you need to know about hospice care: 1)     Hospice is a philosophy of care, not a brick-and-mortar location 2)     Signing up doesn’t mean giving up all medical care 3)     You have to qualify for hospice, but you can opt out at any time 4)     If you start hospice and realize it’s not for you, you can quit 5)     You may live longer during the time you have left 6)     You can still see your regular doctor 7)     The goal of hospice is to help you live well- not sedate you 8)     It can enrich and sometimes salvage the last sage of life 9)     Hospice is for the entire family 10) Hospice continues after death. In honor of #OTMonth, we recognize the work of occupational therapists, key members of the PACE interdisciplinary team! While OT’s do a lot to support PACE participants, one key area is to prevent falls, which can have a huge negative impact on a participant’s health, wellbeing, and ability to remain in their home and community. Intus Care works with our #PACE partners on utilization management, which includes reducing risk of falls to prevent unnecessary hospitalizations and other negative outcomes. I know that most of the time, we’re trained in the university to think that patients will only be willing to use their insurance or only consider opening our business if we can get into this or that network when it comes to it. But believe it or not, if you take a moment to think about what your patients need and figure it out, you can have a really great business.
