𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗴 - 𝘄/𝗰 𝟵 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 "The Housing Committee meets on Tuesday 17th September to a discuss a wide range of issues. One of our key aims is to ensure that our tenants are able to continue living safely in their homes. We will be approving updated electrical and gas safety policies. I am pleased to confirm that it is our intention to increase the frequency of our electrical testing by testing to every 5 years from the current 10-year period. Another way in which we support our tenants to live well in their homes is by the provision of aids and adaptations to their properties. We will be reviewing our policy which enables us to support aids and adaptation works recommended by an occupational therapist. We are also extending our private sector housing renewal policy to enable us to provide disabled facilities grants for those in the private sector and those who own their own home. This again helps to deliver work that is recommended by occupational therapists. Housing was a major issue in the General Election, with an acknowledgement by all parties that more housing is required. We are keen that we play our part in the provision of new housing. The last time the country was able to build 300,000 new homes was more than 50 years ago. This was only possible because local authorities built over 40% of all new homes then. Without the contribution of local authorities that target will not be met. We will be discussing a recent report by Southwark Council and other councils which sets out a number of key steps to ensure that council housing remains sustainable and able to make a significant contribution to meet the housing crisis. It has a number of measures that government can take to help solve one of the biggest issues of our time." This week's blog was written by Cllr Gary Luff, Chair of Stroud District Council Housing Committee. #housing #councilhousing #socialhousing

Calling all VCSE organisations across Sussex, Brighton & Hove:- In the early days of Integrated Care System (ICS) being formed across Brighton and Hove and East and West Sussex, you kindly shared your views on workforce priorities for the VCSE and our ‘asks’ of integration. Two of the areas which had popular support was to join up on occupational health* and employee assistance programmes**. There is currently some work starting on looking at how the VCSE could benefit from accessing these through the ICS. Some of you will have lamented the end of Sussex Staff in Mind, which ended some months ago. To help take this forward, please can you respond to this very short survey to help us shape a collaboration for our health and social care workers across the VCSE and NHS. It should really only take a few minutes. If you could respond by 25th April that would be much appreciated. https://lnkd.in/ePUwDh79 * Occupational health: Occupational health schemes for employees are designed to promote and protect the health, safety, and well-being of workers within the workplace. These schemes typically involve a range of initiatives, policies, and practices aimed at preventing work-related injuries and illnesses, promoting physical and mental health, and supporting employees in maintaining a healthy work-life balance. ** Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs): Offering confidential counselling and support services to employees and their families for personal and work-related issues. These sometimes sit within an occupational health offer, or can be free standing. Many thanks, #westsussex #eastsussex #brighton&hove #workforce #wellbeing

This #AccessibleHomesWeek, Lauren Walker, Occupational Therapist and professional advisor at the Royal College of Occupational Therapists shares her expert insights on how accessible homes can significantly improve public health. Lauren highlights the critical role of housing in shaping our wellbeing and the need for policies that go beyond just building more homes. “To truly transform our housing landscape, it’s vital that we build not just more homes, but better, more accessible ones. By embracing regulations like M4(2), we can create homes that are adaptable, inclusive, and capable of supporting a diverse and ageing population.” Lauren’s experience underscores why adopting M4(2) standards is essential—not just for accessible housing, but for creating a healthier nation. Her perspective aligns with our mission to advocate for homes that support dignity, independence, and better health outcomes. We have now come to the last of the 4 Phases in our Work Readiness Programme, for Youth and Adults at Risk. In our reintegration phase, beneficiaries take their final steps before completing the MES programme. Here, we provide support to and ensure that the participants have met all five major Work Readiness goals. It is a critical stage where we evaluate progress, identify strengths, and set new goals. We emphasize the importance of building a healthy sense of community, where beneficiaries can receive ongoing support even after leaving our programme. During this phase, beneficiaries have access to Social Work and Occupational Therapy services to aid in their journey. Even after exiting the programme and finding employment in the open labor market, beneficiaries can still rely on MES for support whenever needed. We are committed to assisting them every step of the way towards their continued development and success. #MouldEmpowerServe #ChangetheHeartoftheCity

I wonder how many people know what an Occupational Therapist does? The days are never the same - even more so personally working IN and ON my OT business. Huge proportion of time is writing, admin, sourcing equipment, meetings, inventing solutions, therapy, house calls, and reports. Here’s a snippet of OT community life this month.
