What's a Scale-up? It's a fairly new term for an early stage company, that's beyond a Start-up but not fully formed as a mature steady business. It's most likely growing rapidly, perhaps in a promising new technology and one that promises great returns to investors, shareholders and employees, fun to be a part of ..... but often a bit of a rollercoaster ride - exciting but frightening! Success and failure depend on the founder team working well together and being able to build a body of people who are needed to manage the growing business. A huge challenge scale-ups face is getting top calibre people to work with the founder team. It can be time consuming and expensive to get recruitment agencies and head hunters to search and the exec team will almost certainly be too busy to take a systematic reliable approach to search. Recruiters often employ junior inexperienced associates who are unable to communicate at a mature level with identified candidates.
