So here's a little Secret that's rarely spoken about: The field of marketing, especially Social Media Marketing, can get Exhausting!  NO, we can't always keep up with the Trends! NO, we can't always be on our toes, tracking and understanding the new Instagram algorithm! NO, we can't always be coming up with creative ideas for Topicals! I've been juggling a Full-time Job, Freelancing, and being an Active content creator here on LinkedIn. But guess what? I hit pause. You might be thinking, "But you're never really 'off' as a social media manager," and you'd be partially right.  However, I made a choice to quit my job, scale back on freelancing gigs, and, yes, even let LinkedIn take a backseat. Why? Because sometimes, you need to stop running to truly catch your breath. Here's your mid-week nudge: Work until your Body and, more crucially, your Mind signals a timeout. It's essential to take breaks! I get it, it's a Corporate race and you gotta stay ahead, but how will you if your mind's too heavy to keep up with your pace? Give it a thought! Today marks a big step in my professional journey. After much contemplation, I've made three decisions that could change my career path: ✅ Embracing Freelancing: I've always been passionate about digital marketing, honing my skills behind the scenes. But I've never leapt freelancing, always finding comfort behind my laptop screen. Today, that changes. I'm excited to announce that I'm officially starting my freelance digital marketing business! ✅ Reaching Out: In the past, I've relied solely on inbound leads and referrals. It felt safe, but it limited my growth. Starting today, I'm pushing myself to actively reach out to potential clients. It's a bit nerve-wracking, but I'm ready for the challenge. ✅ Investing in Tools: They say a worker is only as good as their tools. Is this what it feels like? That feeling of satisfaction, calmness, happiness and peace. Like a true mental and emotional peace. I've been trying hard for the past 2 years to "break away" from climbing the corporate ladder. So, while waiting for a big break *cracks knuckles first*, I sacrificed more than a year to learn, execute and get some much needed experience in this Digital Marketing line. While I regret a little financially, it finally feels like it's beginning to pay off. I gained some clients who trusted me, people who valued my experience and expertise and gave me the opportunity to work with them. I am beginning to love the world of freelancing again. But don't get me wrong, I'm still juggling between a few jobs at hand. But for all the sacrifices I've made, let's take a moment and take it all in first. 5 clients in 3 months is a good start. I used to work as a salesperson at Limelight in 2022. The job was going well, and I was earning a handsome amount. Then, I discovered freelancing and started learning about its pros and cons. I tried to manage freelancing alongside my job, but the intense job timings made it impossible. So, I decided to quit my job and pursue freelancing full-time. (It was a tough decision) After quitting, I dived into learning about Meta, Google, and TikTok ads. I started providing these services to earn MONEY. Life changes when you take action. This gig can be tough!   Working in social media can be pretty hard, whether you're freelancing or working in corporate you're bound to meet some challenges at some point.   And they'll probably go a bit like this...   ❌ "Everyone thinks they can do my job" ❌ "I'm not being taken seriously" ❌ "I'm undervalued and overworked"   It can be mentally taxing. You're at the forefront of online negativity, your screen time is through the roof and sometimes you might even be expected to be several roles at once! 🤷♀️   But it can also be incredibly rewarding.   It's fun, creative, collaborative, and strategic - no day is the same! And the BEST feeling is when you finally see success from your hard work.   There's still so much stigma around social media as a career. That’s why it’s so important to find people within your business that support you, build you up and advocate your value. I was MIA on LinkedIn for the past month. Here’s why: Client work has picked up! 🥳 I’ve still got plenty of room for more clients, but that wasn’t clear to me a month ago. There’s no point in taking on more work if I can’t deliver for my current clients, and I had to make sure that was the #1 priority (and it still is). And for those of you who are curious about how that’s been going, here’s what I’ve learned: ➡️ I niched down too early If anyone remembers my kickoff freelancing post, I was looking to do marketing work for those in the financial advisory industry. After more research and conversations, that turned out to be the wrong move for many reasons. Since then, I’ve been working with companies in a variety of industries, learning what I like and don’t like along the way. ✅ I DO like the startup space → I get to work with passionate, smart, ambitious people & fast-growing companies ✅ I DO like paid social media → Paid social is my jam, and therefore my primary service ✅ I DO like subcontracting → more reps, more client variety AND exposure to other agency operations = a ton of learning opportunities So here’s my plan for Q1 of 2025: → Pursuing more early-stage startup clients → Continue to grow with current agencies as a media buyer → Doubling down on content & networking I’m MIA no more, so look forward to more paid social content 👀 - it’s on its way
