We are thrilled to announce another 2024 Leaders of Impact nominee from the Greater Bay Area—Pamela Banerjee, PMP, CCWP, CCWP-SOW! Pamela joins an inspiring group of changemakers dedicated to combating cardiovascular disease and stroke worldwide. After losing two loved ones to heart attacks, Pamela felt compelled to raise awareness about the dangers of heart disease. She has seen how often this silent killer strikes without warning, and she's driven to help others take preventive measures, especially with the increasing cases seen lately. Her dedication to this cause is deeply personal and stems from her desire to ensure others don’t face the same heartbreak. Professionally, Pamela is the Vice President of Strategic Relations at Akraya, Inc. and she also leads Diversity Solutions at WBW | Women Back to Work. When she’s not driving impactful change in her professional life, Pamela serves on the board of USPAACC-West, giving back to her Pan Asian community by bringing diverse businesses together for various opportunities. She is also a trained Indian classical dancer and, in her free time, loves reading.

We had THE BEST hour yesterday having an insightful, inspiring and engaging conversation about the core of associations - membership. We spoke about what engagement looks (or feels like) and how we measure it, why diversity, equity & inclusion is important, whether membership is still a thing (spoiler - it is) and how we attract and engage our 'future members'. A few brief takeaways from our conversation: "Engagement is not what we think – it’s what the member thinks" (Craig Young, CAE "Membership is a transfer of value. We draw on the contribution of our members, we get a contribution, and that contribution actually drives our capacity to deliver" (Graham Catt) "We can't grow and remain relevant if we don't have different voices at the table and different voices in our associations" (Kerrie Green (Lucas)) "When in doubt - ask your members (and not just your current members) and you can't go wrong" (Donna South) A big shout-out and thank you to our panel members for their contributions. It's Official! Wish me luck! Laurie MacDonald, Candidate for U.S. Congress District 12 Laurie MacDonald has declared her candidacy for U. S. Congress District 12 which includes sections of Allegheny and Westmoreland Counties. A Democrat, MacDonald is the President/CEO of Center for Victims in Pittsburgh’s Southside. A graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, MacDonald was born and raised in the Mon Valley. Throughout her career, she has served on numerous local and statewide boards and has been the recipient of numerous awards including: NAACP Community Organizer Award, Mon Valley Woman of Achievement Award, UPMC Diversity & Respect Champion, Forbes Fund, Wishart Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management, Pittsburgh Business Times C-Suite Award as CEO for a Nonprofit Organization and more. When asked why she wants to run for congress, her reply is: “I have always considered myself to be an advocate; the voice of those whose voices who are not being heard. As a first-generation American, I learned early on the blessing of being an American, how very different our American way of life is and the struggles faced by so many in other countries. I am proud to be an American. My views are moderate. What I bring to the district is deeply rooted life experience, astrong understanding of all our unique communities and cultures. Our very differences are what weave us together to form a strong fabric of life in western Pennsylvania. We are a culture of respect and hard work. Through our professional sports, our wide range of ethnic and religious celebrations and universities, all are welcomed and celebrated in our communities. What we see now is a country deeply divided. The vociferous rhetoric, divisiveness and polarizing politics that consume our country right now must stop. My experience has taught me to lead with empathy and compassion. I believe the best ideas arise when all voices are heard, respectfully. Good leadership requires the vision to see both sides, coalesce the ideas and bring people together. No one group’s ideology is more important than the other. Our most important asset, as a country, is unity. In unity there is strength and harmony. It is incumbent on all of us, especially our leaders, to move to the middle with liberty and justice for all. www.macdonald4congress.com

Great recognition for This Way ONward! This work is crucial for bridging the opportunity gap and creating a better world! Check out the link below and vote for This Way ONward! #oldnavy
Exciting news! This Way ONward is an official finalist in the 2024 Anthem Awards, selected out of 2,300 submissions that define a new benchmark for impactful work at both non-profit and for-profit organizations. As Executive Sponsor of This Way ONward, I have seen first-hand why this program deserves recognition. Since 2007, This Way ONward has leveraged both the scale of our business and the network of our stores to unlock potential for economically marginalized, early-career talent. This Way ONward continues to expand, and our stores have developed incredible community partnerships through this program – together, we are bridging the opportunity gap by addressing the barriers to employment that youth face. A huge thank you to everyone who makes this work possible. This way ONward has my vote! Coker is self-refuting; suicide bombers and terrorists actually conform to his definition of "true warriors" rather better than Western soldiers, due to their commitment, ideology, and willingness to sacrifice their lives for a cause: 1. Ultimate Sacrifice: Suicide bombers embody this principle by making the ultimate sacrifice, believing that their death serves a greater ideological or religious purpose. 2. Asymmetrical Warfare: Terrorists and suicide bombers use their limited resources to combat much larger forces, like the Spartans at Thermopylae. 3. Fighting for a Cause: Many terrorists and suicide bombers see themselves as defending their communities, religion, or homeland against foreign occupation or moral degradation. 4. Cultural and Religious Frameworks: In Islam, martyrdom and jihad are seen as acts of supreme courage and righteousness. 5. Challenges to Western Technological Warfare: Unlike Western soldiers, who are increasingly distanced from the battlefield due to technology, terrorists engage directly and often at great personal risk, embodying a more authentic form of warriorhood where physical and existential stakes are higher.

Lsaran changes everyone involved and the community as a whole. 📈 This cycle of growth is not just about organising quality events - it’s about changing lives. For many, Lsaran becomes a gateway to new friendships, professions, and habits. 🔸 It all began with me coaching the initial team, sharing my experience in teamwork and collaboration. Today, those early adepts are mentoring the next generation. Every interaction, whether it’s training our dedicated team or guiding new volunteers, inspires not only skills but also a spirit of commitment, responsibility, and effective communication - a culture that enriches both their personal and professional lives. But the impact doesn’t stop there - our volunteers take these values home, spreading them within their families and communities. ✅ The result? A stronger, more connected Armenian community, where the values we nurture have a lasting, transformative effect. Lsaran isn’t just an event. It’s a catalyst for meaningful, enduring change.

🔔 Available as free to read 🔔 Dialogues on Voluntary and Philanthropic Leadership. This special issue is an amalgamation of thoughts and reflections arising from the ERNOP Safe Space on 'Philanthropic and Voluntary Leadership' in Zagreb: https://lnkd.in/egNCawTB It includes a central pillar article by Sufina Ahmad MBE (John Ellerman Foundation) and Georg von Schnurbein (University of Basel). Their article connects foundations' governance and leadership levels with the demand to respond to the societal poly-crisis. It is supported by three commentary papers: 💡 Katy Adams (Heidelberg University) argues that strategies for strengthening grant-making foundations can be expanded by examining the relationship between foundations and non-profits. 💡 Dr. Michele Fugiel Gartner, CAP® (University of St Andrews) her response highlights foundations' unique independence and identifies the significant research gap in understanding their internal dynamics. 💡 Becky Nesbit (The University of Georgia) discusses five practical suggestions for incorporating sensemaking activities into the work of the foundation's board. https://lnkd.in/eKPYR5fX
