Islamic School Principals know they don’t really get a summer-long break. Here is an excerpt from a great article about best practices in summer for school principals. What is your favorite part about prepping for the school year? “August: Prepare, Connect, and Welcome Preparation for the New Academic Year Prepare Classrooms and Facilities: Ensure classrooms, libraries, laboratories, and other facilities are clean, well-stocked, and ready for use. Staff Meetings: Hold meetings to communicate the school’s goals, expectations, and any new procedures or policies. Building Connections Connect with Parents: Start the year on a positive note with a ‘welcome back’ newsletter or video message to parents. Community Outreach: Strengthen the school’s relationship with the community by organizing an open house or a community service event. Welcoming Teachers and Students Welcome Back Event for Teachers: Host a social event for the teachers before school begins to foster a sense of camaraderie. First Day of School Preparation: Plan a special welcome for students on their first day back to create an atmosphere of excitement and positivity. With Summer Break right around the corner, now is the time to start thinking about summer activities. In an effort to continue collaborating with your IEP and school teams into the future, now may be the right time to start discussions with your team about the summer! Here are three things I think you should ask: 1. Can you please explain my child’s IEP progress to me and then also give me ideas on how I can help my child maintain their progress over the summer? 2. Are there any areas where my child needs extra help or attention? Additionally, are there any summer programs or activities offered by the school or local community that you would recommend for my child? 3. What are some recommended resources or activities that my child can use over the summer to continue learning and stay engaged?

The research tells us that having books at home stops summer learning loss AND that children in under-resourced communities have fewer books at home. ALL children deserve to have access to books and reading, and at Books Are Wings, we're working to build the libraries of young readers across Rhode Island. "Prioritizing learning as a year-round commitment, and implementing programs that support summer learning, limit summer learning loss, which in turn reduces the achievement gap." (BU Journal of Graduate Studies in Education, Volume 14, Issue 2, 2022) You can have a big impact in the life of a child this summer by supporting our Stop the Summer Slide Campaign. Give today, and help make reading a key part of every child's summer experience: https://bit.ly/3XfopGi

Your student is 1:325 when it comes to support from a counselor in making career decisions. Skills Lab can make them 1:1.
Skills Lab was founded partly to provide more resources to graduating seniors (HS or College) making career decisions. It was clear, from parents and the stats, that counselors are stretched thin and it's impossible to reach each student to help make these life-altering decisions about college, career, and jobs. If you have a student facing graduation in the next year, check out our student services at www.skillslabtraining.com. https://lnkd.in/gwC3_Fnb

"That doesn't seem so bad." That was JM's response once he had completed the plan to complete his summer work. JM, like many middle school students, finds summer work "intrusive." He feels as though he works hard all throughout the year, and that he deserves his summers off and free from schoolwork. JM was diagnosed with ADHD three years ago and puts in a lot of effort to earn good grades. Creating a manageable plan so that JM can enjoy his summer while also allowing him to enjoy his summer-PRICELESS. We designed a meticulous plan ensuring JM's summer remains his own, while also acknowledging the need for continued learning. The result? A priceless sense of accomplishment and a summer that feels just as it should: free, yet purposeful. Every student deserves to enjoy their summer while maintaining academic momentum. If it's possible for JM, it's possible for your student too. The secret lies in crafting a plan that allows room to breathe while inviting academic growth. Let's empower our kids to embrace summer learning not as an obligation, but as a chance to seize the day. Who's ready to create their own summer success story?

Children who have dropped out of school often encounter a significant gap in both educational and skill levels compared to their peers of the same age At #EducateMe_Community_Schools, we have implemented the #acceleration_program, an intensive 30-day summer camp designed to address this challenge. Through this program, we aim to assist children in advancing within the school system, and fostering the development of their social and emotional skills. Our approach involves addressing each child's weaknesses comprehensively, working diligently until they not only overcome challenges but also regain a strong sense of self-confidence. The results have been noteworthy, with 50 out of 73 students successfully passing one or two levels higher than their pre-program level. #EducationTransformsSociety #ImpactfulEducation

What if school was a community where everyone is always learning, even the teachers? What if school was not a place for experts and answers, but a place where curious people could investigate their most interesting questions? What if school was a place where experiments were encouraged, where people could play and practice for life and work? What if school was not something that ended when you got a job, but a place to connect with interesting people and ideas, your whole life long? What if school was easy to get to, online, live, face-to-face, fun, creative, inspiring, and energizing? What if school was full of friends and good conversation, a place where you were accepted, where your life and goals mattered, and you could relax, knowing you’re in good company? What if school was a group of people exploring a shared philosophy, an idea that life could be better, work could be better, and we could be better, together? What if that were possible?

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the college admissions process, almost like it's a do-or-die decision?🎓 We often stress ourselves and our teenagers out about choosing the right school. But here's what I’ve learned after guiding countless famlies through this journey: It's NOT just about the name on the diploma; it’s about how our teens leverage their time and experiences at college. So next time you feel that pressure mounting for both you and your teen, remember: It’s not solely where they go but what they make of it. 🙌 What steps are you encouraging your teenager to take in making the most of their college experience?
