For the past four years we've been supporting the Movember foundation during the month of November. This year 10 staff members have decided to participate in the event, they want to use it as an opportunity to continue to keep mental health top of mind as we head into the end of the year. They're using this as a platform to continue conversations and consistently make iProspect a safe place for staff to be a part of. We are proud of the stories they've shared and the vulnerability the give to us. If you are interested in donating, please follow the link below. Want to encourage a colleague to open up to you but not sure where to start? Suggest a walk. Taking a stroll, rather than sitting across a desk from each other, provides a distraction and involves less direct eye contact, which in turn may make your colleague feel like they can speak more freely. They may not open up to you the first time, so try to make it a regular lunchtime thing. The more time you spend together, the more they'll feel they can trust you. Walking is good for your mental health and well-being in general, so you'll both benefit from getting your steps in. By consistently practising emotional support for one another at work, 'difficult' conversations can become much easier and happen more naturally, helping us all to open up and share how we're feeling. Thinking of talking to a workmate about their mental well-being? Time it right. When you know someone is going through a tough spell at work, you naturally want to help. But before you reach out, be sure both of you have the time and energy to talk. This can be easier said than done when faced with sizeable workloads and the pressure of tight deadlines, so patience is the key here. If you're comfortable with it, wait for those moments when you can both be alone, like a lunch break or outside of work. By consistently practising emotional support for one another at work, 'difficult' conversations can become much easier and happen more naturally, helping us all to open up and share how we're feeling. As a Construction Manager, I am deeply aware of the challenges our industry faces when it comes to mental health. This week, in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Week, I want to draw attention to the critical issue of mental health in construction. Inspired by #TheB1M #GetConstructionTalking campaign, I want to share some ways we can all help tackle this crisis: Look for the Signs: Our colleagues may be struggling in silence. Changes in behavior, mood, or work performance can be signs of mental health issues. Let’s keep an eye out for each other. Ask How They’re Doing: A simple question can make a world of difference. If you notice someone might be struggling, ask them how they’re doing. And remember, it’s often worth asking twice. Be There, Listen, and Point to Support: If a colleague opens up about their struggles, be there for them. Listen without judgment and guide them towards professional help if needed. Use Resources: There are numerous free resources available at getconstructiontalking.org that can provide guidance and support. Remember, it’s okay not to be okay. Let’s break the stigma around mental health in construction. Let’s get construction talking. Let’s spread the word and make a difference together! 🙏

🕺International Men’s Day 2024 is today 19th November. Woods Valldata want to help build awareness of the aims of today: to spread the word about the importance of men's physical and mental health. One in eight men in England has suffered from a mental health issue and three out of four suicides are by men. These staggering statistics show us all that we need to take action and help the men we know, who may be struggling. So, think about starting a conversation with a man you know, and remember small actions can have a big impact: • reach out to check how they are and to show that you care, make a call, or send a quick text; • ask ‘how are you feeling’? and ‘how can I help’?; • really listen to what they say, be present and attentive - body language, tone of voice and the emotions behind spoken words can tell you a lot. When we listen with all five senses, others feel seen, heard, and noticed, and it can have a massive effect on what they share; and • show acceptance - let them know ‘it’s okay not to be okay’ and recognise their emotions and try to understand where they’re coming from, so they feel accepted. This can calm any anxieties and relieve any pressure they’ve placed on themselves. Here's some helpful links • https://bit.ly/4ezh9tJ • https://bit.ly/3Z8Yqkf • https://bit.ly/3YX6rqW • https://bit.ly/41aXTQn Take care of yourselves and each other. x

Men silently suffer. Surveys from around the world find that males are reluctant to talk about their mental health. They don’t go to therapy as seeking help is viewed as a sign of weakness. Their upbringing, culture, or circumstances could be reasons why they don't show their vulnerable side. Over time, many become numb to their troubling emotions. It’s easy for them to push their depression under the rug - it’s better than communicating or confronting what they’re going through. But stress doesn’t spare anyone. The suppressed emotions WILL find expression in destructive ways - anger, aggression, addiction, disease, and suicide. We raise our little boys to be strong, brave, and tough. We ask them to face the world like a “man”. But it's equally important to teach them self-care, compassion, kindness, and empathy - first, towards themselves. A mentally strong man looks out for himself, his family, and the community. I’ve lost friends due to mental-health issues. Some died before they hit 40. It’s easy to label them as people who had compulsive disorders - but they all had invisible layers of mental health issues that slowly took them to their graves. They didn’t ask for help - they silently suffered till the end. In United States alone, suicide rates are four times higher among men than women. The COVID-19 situation only made matters worse. MAY is Mental Health Awareness Month in Canada and the US. Stats will remain stats until we do something about it. We all have an opportunity to take responsibility… …to create a genuine, safe, guilt-free, and non-judgemental environment for the men and boys in our lives to open up if they choose to… Stigma fades when men and boys see resilience and mental health self-care modelled by their fathers, brothers, teachers, faith leaders, friends, and colleagues. You don’t have to change the world. But once in a while, check in on the person next to you if they seem a bit off… …your son, husband, brother, father, colleague, friend, or relative... Ask them if they're okay. Tell them you're available if they want to talk. Especially, if you have reasons to believe they're indulging in self-harm or silently suffering… ...a little reassurance can go a LONG way. Your timely intervention could turn out to be the ONLY reason someone would probably be alive. It can make ALL the difference. It’s not a fairy-tale. I’ve seen it happen. If you sense something, trust your gut and intervene. Don't think twice. You could save a life. If this post strikes a chord: give it a thumbs up, hit follow, and share it to boost its reach. CAMH is Canada’s largest non-profit mental health organization. Help them build a future where no one is left behind. If you can, please support my cause and donate to my fundraiser below - no $ is too small. 🙏 Don’t think twice. #CAMHSunriseChallenge https://lnkd.in/gnNNfSqg

When a colleague reaches out to you, what's the most important thing you can do to support them? Listen. When you know someone's going through a rough patch at work, it can be tempting to offer advice, but being there to listen is often enough to help them open up about what's bothering them. Listening shows that you want to understand a person's feelings. So try not to interrupt them; it might give the impression that you don't have time for what they say. Instead, nod, smile, and make small noises to encourage them to continue. By consistently practising emotional support for one another at work, 'difficult' conversations can become much easier and happen more naturally, helping us all to open up and share how we're feeling.
