I got a chance to attend the recently concluded global town hall 2024 organized by SDSN Youth Indonesia and Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia and here are my key insights from this eye opening event 🌿 Food Security Crisis: Millions in Africa rely on relief food, leading to inadequate nutrition. Addressing food security is vital for health and development. 📈 Economic Barriers: The escalating cost of essential food items forces families to prioritize survival over nutrition, highlighting a need for economic support. 🌧️ Climate Impact on Agriculture: Climate change exacerbates conditions for farmers, causing significant crop failures and threatening future food supplies. 🎓 Importance of Education: Educating youth about sustainable farming practices and the importance of nutrition can empower the next generation to combat food insecurity. 🔄 Collaborative Solutions: Global cooperation is necessary to develop comprehensive strategies that address the intertwined issues of climate, food security, and economic stability. 💡 Investment in Innovation: Supporting agricultural technologies and practices can enhance food production, making it more efficient and sustainable. 🌈 Inclusive Decision-Making: Engaging youth and marginalized communities in discussions can lead to more equitable and effective climate policies. Let's continue to engage and advocate for solutions that can make a difference! #FoodSecurity #ClimateAction #Sustainability #Innovation #InclusiveGrowth #Agriculture

In addition, a new presidential decree has mandated research on the biofortification of various commodities. These two new government policies will significantly impact the country's biofortification program. Thanks to the hard work of the Indonesia team on policy and advocacy, HarvestPlus has been recognized as one of the key actors in this achievement. 🌾🧑🏽🌾Learn more about HarvestPlus' work in Indonesia, which also seeks to boost farmers' enthusiasm for planting zinc rice in Wanayasa Sub-district, Purwakarta District, West Java Province to help combat stunting and improve nutrition and public health. Ensuring sufficient food supplies has becoming a challenge in Indonesia as one of the countries with the largest population in the world. According to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 2022, there were approximately 16.2 million people in Indonesia who still experienced hunger or food insecurity. The Study on Nutritional Status in Indonesia (SSGI) in 2022 also highlighted a high national prevalence of stunting at 21.6%. Therefore, Citi Indonesia and Plan Indonesia launched the Youth-Led Agri-Food to ensure food security in the East Nusa Tenggara region on Friday (1/3/2024). The program will run until 2025 and provide training for 400 young farmers in 25 villages inthe South Central Timor Regency, the majority of whom are women. The Youth-Led Agri-Food program aims to increase food availability and improve the quality of life for local communities, enhancing the capabilities of young farmers to produce healthy agricultural products and addressing the issue of stunting in the Soe region.
