🧡 Honoring Truth, Reconciliation, and Community Health🧡 Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we reflect on the legacy of residential schools and honor the survivors, the children who never came home, and their families. This day also marks Orange Shirt Day, a time to raise awareness about the lasting intergenerational impacts these institutions have had on individuals, families, and entire communities. At AMS, we recognize that reconciliation is essential to the well-being of the communities we serve in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. True reconciliation means not only reflecting on the past but also taking meaningful steps toward healing. We remain committed to providing compassionate, accessible healthcare to northern communities, acknowledging the historical trauma, and supporting the path forward. In regions where access to healthcare can be a challenge, we strive to bridge the gap with cutting-edge technology, compassionate care, and strong community partnerships. Together, we’re making a real difference, one patient at a time. 🧡 We encourage everyone to take the time today—and every day—to reflect, listen, and learn as we work toward a brighter, more just future for all. #NDTR #EveryChildMatters #OrangeShirtDay #CommunityParamedicine #AirAmbulanceTeam #ACCESSAirAmbulance #AdvancedMedicalSolutions #TogetherForAHealthyNorth

The need for accessible homes is GREAT. Roughly 750,000 elder-headed households need formal supportive services — assistance due to a functional impairment as a result of disability or health problems. While half of these receive informal services, either from or outside the home, half do not. Learn more about the need and how to help at homerepairs.org.

Thriving in residential care. This is very useful and confirmatory research. Many of us know that people can thrive in residential care despite perceptions and rhetoric to the contrary, usually peddled just to cut costs. Many Providers also know how to ensure quality of life happens, and deliver this brilliantly. Yet, for the same reason, we have such duplicitous rhetoric, 1.6m people cannot get the care they need at all. All elements of the health and care system should be commissioned to meet people's needs properly, as many Providers do, but sadly, that is not what happens, when care is commissioned (or denied) from statutory bodies.

These themes emphasise the importance of social interaction, active participation, a welcoming environment, and proper support structures in care homes. We're delighted to see the Children & Young People's Centre for Justice (CYCJ) reports released today, advocating for a children-first, trauma-informed, and rights-respecting approach to secure care. This vision is bold and presents a new future for children. Led by Katie Upsdale, our team collaborated on this project by bringing expertise in systems change and user-centred design. We generated rich #evidence, working with children and young people in - and with experience of secure care - and their families/carers, with a vision to affect change at a national level. We know that place-based, systemic change can be complex. It requires working differently, working in equity at the grassroots levels, and sharing system-learning and decision-making opportunities with those impacted in the community. We hope that this roadmap for change is a bold step towards a more compassionate future for children and young people. #vision #children #families #future #systemschange #national #policy #youngpeople #ThePromise #collaboration #securecare #caring
📢 Launch Announcement 📢 We are excited to share the Reimagining Secure Care reports, which outline a transformative vision for Scotland’s secure care system. These reports, commissioned by The Scottish Government and developed by CYCJ, advocate for a children-first, trauma-informed, and rights-respecting approach to secure care. Drawing on extensive collaboration with stakeholders, young people, and practitioners, these reports provide a roadmap for change — ensuring children's needs are prioritised in care and justice settings. From keeping children with their families to creating community-based, therapeutic environments, this is a bold step towards a more compassionate future. https://lnkd.in/ebH9h6YZ #YouthJustice #SecureCare #ChildrensRights #CYCJ #ThePromise #SocialChange #ScottishGovernment

After watching “How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies,” it really got me thinking... Who will care for us when we’re old and disabled? Can we still live with dignity in our old age? Are we financially prepared for the challenges ahead as our bodies weaken? These questions are real, and they remind us how important early planning is for our future care. Let’s not wait until it’s too late—start planning for a secure and dignified old age now. #ElderlyCare #FinancialPlanning #AgingWithDignity #PrepareForTheFuture #OldAgeCare
