Another child murdered by those who were meant to love and protect her. Some serious considerations here for government, local authorities and professionals…what is ever more clear is that education must become a statutory partner and I wholeheartedly agree we should have a register of all our children being educated at home. #Sarasharif rest in peace now angel 💔💔

Wow. Sometimes a report stops you in your tracks - and this is one of those occasions. A huge well done to the #CSETaskforce and The Hydrant Programme for publishing today a new report which sets out publicly a clear, detailed picture of police recorded group-based child sexual abuse and exploitation crimes across England and Wales. The proportion of children seriously abusing and harming other children is staggering and is a wake-up call for all of us. Here at NAPAC - the National Association for People Abused in Childhood we are also saddened but unsurprised by the finding that 26% of group-based offending takes place in the family environment. The place where children should be safest is often the site of the highest risk; that's something that the many thousands of victims and survivors who contact us for support every year tell us. Would highly recommend reading the whole report for a sobering but enlightening experience - access it here: https://lnkd.in/eV-B_4-v

Preceding today's published annual report, The Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel published it report into child sexual abuse in the family environment recently, "I wanted them all to notice". When reading the review I was struck by their helpful comment on mandatory reporting and how it found no evidence indicating that it would have benefitted any the child victims of sexual abuse in the 130 cases reviewed. There is lots of important learning within the review (find it at https://buff.ly/3Bri1my), which if used by government will support a more protective system in the UK, including its emphasis on the vital role of leadership. Find out more about our views on mandatory reporting in our article at https://buff.ly/41wplrY
