📌 A European Parliament Resolution calls on China to stop distorting international rules. The Resolution, initiated and spearheaded by the EPP Group MEP Miriam Lexmann, also calls on the EU and its Member States to support Taiwan’s meaningful participation in relevant international organisations such as the World Health Organization, the International Civil Aviation Organization, the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. It also calls on the UN Secretariat to grant Taiwanese nationals and journalists the right of access to UN premises for visits, meetings, and news-gathering activities, which they are currently denied due to Chinese intervention. “Allowing the Chinese Communist Party to continue distorting UN Resolution 2758 and turning a blind eye to the increased military exercises around Taiwan threatens global peace and security. We must stand up for the truth, freedom and international law," Miriam Lexmann insists. By adopting the text, Members underline that Taiwan is the EU’s key partner and a like-minded democratic friend in the Indo-Pacific region. MEPs warn that any attempt to unilaterally change the status quo in the Taiwan Strait, in particular through the use of force or coercion, will not be accepted and will be met with a firm and resolute response.

Foreign Policy Manipulation by Superpowers I make the provocative claim that a country's foreign policy is not truly independent, but rather an expression of the ambitions of foreign powers that prop up the regime. This speaks to the concept of client states and spheres of influence in international relations. The idea that a government's survival depends on the support of external actors, who then dictate foreign policy, is a common critique of authoritarian regimes allied with global superpowers. The regime trades away national interests for regime security.

If the US is going to fight #informationwarfare with #China, overt will work better than covert. Covert activities give PRC dis-information purveyors opportunities to spread false conspiracy narratives about the US domestically and abroad. Overt activities--i.e. publishing verifiable evidence of PRC corruption and malign actions alongside radical transparency about ourselves and our actions--favor the US more over time. The battle will grind slowly but will reveal US imperfection bolted onto a basically attractive foundation. This is juxtaposed against a PRC system that looks tough at first glance, but upon deeper examination is an AI-powered totalitarian controlocracy now bad enough that an increasing number of its citizens are literally willing to walk across the Darien Gap to escape. #greatpowercompetition #nationalsecurity Andrew Erickson Christopher Sharman Craig Singleton Isaac Harris Justin Clark Kit Conklin https://lnkd.in/eMXyiDvt

TOPIC: Establishing Global Accountability: A Proposal for the Permanent International Investigative Body on Arms Transfers (PIBAT) ANALYSIS: Many countries are involved in supplying arms to various groups in conflict zones, including Hamas, Hezbollah, and Israel. These actions often violate Article 6(3) of the Arms Trade Treaty, which prohibits the transfer of arms if they are likely to be used in genocide, crimes against humanity, or war crimes. Despite these international legal constraints, arms continue to flow into these regions, fueling violence and perpetuating conflicts. I propose the creation of a Permanent International Investigative Body on Arms Transfers (PIBAT) under the UN. Unlike ad hoc mechanisms, PIBAT would provide continuous oversight, ensuring compliance with international law and the ATT. It would monitor, investigate, and recommend sanctions against those who violate these norms, promoting transparency and accountability. This proposal is in alignment with the goals of the UN Charter: maintaining international peace and security (Article 1), suppressing acts of aggression (Article 2), and promoting and encouraging respect for human rights (Article 55). Therefore, I urge all member states to support this initiative to enhance global security and uphold our shared legal commitments.

With conflicts escalating and powerful nations often ignoring international law, the effectiveness of the UN is seriously in question.
