It was great to see everyone at the Council's annual meeting this morning. We heard updates from our board members and our advisors at Cardinal Infrastructure, LLC about the Council's advocacy progress and the legislative and regulatory landscape heading into 2025. We also introduced Dan Raudebaugh from the Center for Transportation and the Environment, who will be taking over the Council's administrative and member services functions. Dan was also approved as a nonvoting board member. Free speech is one thing. Speech directing people to spread misinformation and disinformation and to damage property, is another thing. It's about time that we hold these NGOs like Greenpeace USA and hopefully others who were involved and continue to be involved in preventing legitimate infrastructure and Energy development. #energy #dapl #Infrastructure #pipelines #development https://lnkd.in/gPkZZy8H

It's disheartening to hear about Dutton's plan to expand the role of gas in the electricity grid. Why even go there when renewables are a cheaper and cleaner option? Fossil fuels are a health hazard. In our recent open letter in The Australian, over 400 health professionals agreed that to protect human health, we need to urgently phase out coal, oil, and gas. A better future is still possible, if we act now. The Australian Government must commit to leaving fossil fuels in the ground and rapidly increase our investment in renewables. It is professionally irresponsible for medical doctors to offer engineering advice, just as I, as an engineer, would never consider giving medical advice. Claiming that we should rely solely on renewables and not use gas is technically incorrect. Renewables alone cannot provide dispatchable electricity, so a supplementary energy source is necessary. E,G Batteries powered by renewables are inherently unreliable for dispatchable electricity, as backup systems should never depend on the very source that has failed—this is a fundamental engineering principle. If you would like an explanation of the engineering aspects, feel free to reach out to me. Just as I consult my doctor for medical advice, I’m happy to provide clarity on engineering matters.
