Monday Inspiration 💡 If you're anything like me, it's one thing to understand the theory, but seeing it applied is where the learning really embeds. Take a look at Glenlyon Norfolk School's great home page with me. Let's see what we find... What I love: - The first thing you see - bold colours, interesting shapes. It says we're creative, confident, and different to other schools. - The first thing you read - 'Empowering students to define success', immediately positions the school as flexible, progressive, empowering. This is such an important point that schools need to consider - what differentiates you? - The second thing you read - 'Missed our Open House events? We would love to show you our school', gives prospective parents a clear next step. I particularly love the way this is written, as if the school is doing the parent a favour by offering a tour. Clever! - You can spot good copy when it includes a lot of 'you' language. This home page is all about you! - Clear and logical links to the next pieces of information you're likely to be interested in (book a tour, junior/middle/senior school, campus information), without overwhelming the parent with every link possible. What can be improved: - Introducing a downloadable prospectus, information pack, or other low-barrier-of-entry way for parents to learn more - Hidden in the navigation is links to "for families, for new families, for alumni" landing pages. I'd like to see these made more prominent, to help avoid information overload! - More professional photography with close ups of students - this would really push the website to the next level.

EEEEEK! 🤯 The lineup is here! I wanted to share something with you all: • This summer at Literacy is Life!, I’ll be delivering my very first keynote: “From Compliance to Change: Be the Hand-Raiser!” Those of you that are close to me know how hard I have fought for structured literacy in the past two years. When school and curriculum leaders in positions of power are not versed in how the brain truly learns to read, WE have to be the hand-raiser. WE have to spark discomfort. WE get to own the data and let it speak. True equity is not just building sweet relationships, but it’s fostering a productive struggle while supporting our kids through it and giving them the tools. • • I’ll also be presenting my take on an Interactive Phonics Block. We’ll explore the latest research on executive functioning and engagement and how they intertwine with the true task of decoding and making meaning. We will also talk about the importance of daily dictation and how sound to spelling activities lead to reading success. • • Takisha Moncrief, Ed.D. Heidi Jane

My session is entitled "If Instruction Isn't Engaging, I Quit." These are the words of our students if we fail to engage them during instruction.
