My top tip: Build positive relationships early – with your students, colleagues, and even parents. Having that support network makes a world of difference. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it – collaboration is key! Good luck to all the new educators this year – you've got this! 💪✨ #ShareYourExpertise #ClearlyEducation"

Information, Media and Truth: Intellectual Beer Goggles Noam Chomsky once said, “Nobody is going to pour truth into your brain. It's something you have to find out for yourself.” As I reflect on some of the turmoil in higher education—and society in general—it occurs to me that Chomsky’s counsel is falling on deaf ears. Increasingly, the public is relying on the media as a proxy for direct access to information and the truth. This has resulted in the epidemic of misinformation and disinformation that is infecting and influencing the higher education ecosystem. In this episode I’ll assess the necessity of maintaining skepticism and critical thinking as we consume information filtered through the media and poured into our brains. #media #information #truth #Chomsky #skepticism #beergoggles #amnesia https://lnkd.in/gbRA54tu

I grew up reading using phonics and the SRA reading assessment toolkit. My best friend and I spent 3rd grade racing through our small school library, one book each at a time. I don't recall who won, but we got through about 6 sets of 5-shelf bookshelves by the time we finished fourth grade, and we had a blast! We had a 'Look it up!' club at that elementary school from second grade through fifth grade, that challenged us [and taught us] to use dictionaries, encyclopedias, and a thesaurus to learn about new words and concepts. Most of it was fun play during classroom time stuck indoors. Then we'd get recess outside on the LARGE grassy playground on two sides of the large [K-8] school building. This report in this video frankly terrifies me for what's been done to at least one whole generation of school kids. READING IS FUNDAMENTAL! I read at least two hundred books per year, heavy on the #speculativefiction, but with often eight to ten technical books from at least a half-dozen fields of endeavour for the slower slog of reading for comprehension required for tech books. Often a few biographies, too. Always useful seeing how another leveraged the challenges they've faced! READING IS TRULY FUNDAMENTAL especially in our nation with governance #ofbyforthepeople. #Time2Change #time2rethink #time2redesign #time2reinvent #time2rebuild #k12 #educationreform #civics #educatetoempower #learn2learn #mostskillsat19wins #phonics
Why everyone stopped reading.
