*Affirmative Action (Gender Equality) Bill, 2024.* Challenges in Achieving the Object of the Bill The Gender, Children and Social Welfare Committee has noted that the gender Parity targets in the Bill would be difficult to achieve considering the historical data and statistics available. According to a report of the Committee, some targets in the Bill might be difficult to achieve owing to cultural & traditional beliefs and constitutional constraints. "To achieve the gender parity and other targets, there is the need for continuous education, advocacy, and pragmatic policies such as quota systems. "The Committee further recognized the unique practices of some security organizations such as the military, who have practices specific to their context and backed by international protocols and standards of operation. This poses a potential hindrance in ensuring compliance when the Bill is passed. "Again, concerning the cultural objective of the Bill, the Committee noted that achieving the objective will come with some difficulties. This is because of the provisions under Article 270(2) of the 1992 Constitution, which restricts Parliament from enacting laws that can influence the institution of Chieftaincy. "Currently, the National and Regional Houses if Chiefs have no female representation and this cannot be redressed owing to the Constitutional imperative." 🏙️The #gender pay gap remains stubbornly large. At the same time, city workers earn more than rural workers, a phenomenon known as the urban wage premium. ⭐This column shows that up to 2008, the urban wage premium for women in the #UK was more than twice that for men, but it fell drastically during the global financial crisis while the premium for men remained the same. 👉The global #recession coincided with #austerity policies that reduced provisions for childcare and public transport, policies that were particularly detrimental to women in cities. "Reflecting on my journey as a Social Welfare Officer and Acting Gender Officer at Neno District Council, I'm reminded of the importance of community-driven initiatives. As I continue my Master's in Human Resource Management, I'm eager to explore innovative solutions that promote social welfare, gender equality, and community development. I'm excited to share two initiatives that are close to my heart: 1. Training male gender champions to lead the fight against gender-based violence. This aligns with the Ministry of Gender's innovative "male engagement strategy," recognizing that men must be part of the solution. 2. Empowering female aspirants through the "Nthawi Yawo" project, ahead of the 2025 elections in Malawi. This initiative, supported by NICE and CCSS, aims to increase women's political participation and leadership in Malawi and Neno District to be specific. Both initiatives demonstrate our commitment to creating a more inclusive and equitable society. Let's continue to support and amplify these efforts! #GenderEquality #WomenEmpowerment #MaleEngagement #NthawiYawo"

Hello everyone, Thank you for being here! Today I am formally introducing my project "Shifting the Lens - a women empowerment initiative" on this platform. This project took years in the making, and we were finally able to turn this dream into a reality last year in the summer of 2023. Now that we approach an year to the start of this project, we are back again with newer plans and bigger goals for this year. For anyone wishing to learn more about "Shifting the Lens", here is a link to our website: https://lnkd.in/gAKr_hhX Here is a brief overview of the project: "Shifting the Lens utilizes a workshop-based curriculum which is customized to empower young girls in India struggling and fighting for their education and their rights. Through these workshops, the organization aims to help these girls engage in active advocacy and help them better understand gender discrimination and their constitutional rights. The workshop focuses on the importance of education for women and the significance of understanding gender discrimination in India : its causes, its effect on women and ways to tackle it. With a dream to work beyond these workshops and to build a safe place for these girls to look up to for help and guidance, Shifting the Lens continues to find ways to engage these young women in a fight for their rights, quality education, a safe environment and civic engagement.” As of now, we have applications open for several different positions (See next post for positions and applications or visit the website's "Get Involved" page). If you are someone passionate about gender equality, policies and laws concerning gender equality, and/or a social justice advocate looking for experience in writing, leading, creating or designing in this field, this opportunity is for you. I have linked application forms for every position. Hopefully we'll see your application soon! Thank you so much!

✨Imagine a world free from the gender pay gap✨ Unfortunately, this reality is far from our own. The gap limits women's financial stability, reinforces stereotypes, and perpetuates inequality. Let's learn from Iceland: 1️⃣Equal Pay Certification: By mandating companies to prove equal pay, Iceland has ensured transparency and accountability in pay practices. 2️⃣Parental Leave: Implementing progressive parental leave policies that support both parents has challenged traditional gender roles and promoted gender equality in childcare responsibilities. 3️⃣Accessible Childcare: Subsidizing childcare has reduced the financial burden on families, making it easier for women to return to work and pursue their careers without sacrificing their family responsibilities. 4️⃣Public Awareness: Through targeted awareness campaigns, Iceland has successfully challenged gender stereotypes and promoted a more inclusive workplace culture. 5️⃣Supportive Infrastructure: Investing in social and welfare infrastructure has allowed women to balance work and family life without compromising their careers. Share your thoughts on how to address the gender pay gap in your community🧐 #genderpaygap #genderequality #workplaceequity #Iceland

We’re delighted to announce this #VolunteersWeek our support of the CIPD Trust ‘Beyond the Gates’ Programme at HMP Styal, aimed at supporting women leaving prison into employment. The programme supports women approaching the end of their sentences to develop confidence, employability skills and vocational skills, working with numerous employment partners in the region. Evidence shows that employment plays a significant role in reducing the chances of re-offending and the New Futures Network found that ex-offenders who find employment are 9% less likely to re-offend. However provision to support women is historically much lower than that offered to men. As a female-led business whose committed to supporting women in the workplace, we want to help support systemic change for female offenders re-entering the workforce. I recently undertook research focusing on the legal recognition of single mothers as guardians, particularly regarding the welfare of illegitimate children. This topic holds personal significance to me, as I believe in the importance of supporting vulnerable populations within our legal frameworks. My analysis highlighted a landmark ruling by the High Court of Bangladesh, which allows children of single mothers to be registered under their mother’s name alone. This decision challenges existing norms around guardianship, promoting gender equality and acknowledging the rights of single mothers and their children. It addresses the complexities faced by single mothers in a patriarchal legal system, where the father's identity is often unknown or absent. The ruling, while a significant step forward, also raises questions about societal acceptance and the potential for legal challenges. Furthermore, it emphasizes the need for continued legal reform to protect the rights of all children, including those born out of wedlock. This research adds to the discussion on gender equality and child welfare, supporting policies that promote the dignity and rights of every individual. #LegalResearch #ChildWelfare #GenderEquality #HumanRights #Guardianship

By reporting pay gap data, companies reflect their commitment to social responsibility, ensuring vulnerable groups are not left behind and that their contributions are being recognised and rewarded equitably. Building on the success of gender pay gap reporting, the new 'Equality (Race and Disability) Bill', proposed last week in the King's Speech, aims to make disability and ethnicity pay gap reporting mandatory for large employers, enshrining the full right to equal pay for both groups too. Data from the ONS shows that both disabled people and people from ethnic minorities earn less on average than their non-disabled and white peers respectively. Mandatory reporting could make it easier for people to bring an unequal pay claim, and also expose other pay disparities and encourage positive action from employers. ⏸️ We're not there yet, however. There are still hurdles to overcome for this bill to be introduced. Creating reports based on those who are disabled, which is a complex spectrum, and race with numerous race and ethnic groupings would not only be very complicated but might be much harder to produce a meaningful report which can be used to make meaningful comparisons and indicating true disparity rather than accidentally reporting false positive or negative outcomes. #PayGapReporting #DisabilityPayGap #EthnicityPayGap #PayGap #KingsSpeech #equity #equality #EqualPay ** please see comments below for alt text **

The Albanese Labor Government is set to pay superannuation on Paid Parental Leave from July 2025, as part of its historic reform. This move, in line with the recommendations of the Women’s Economic Equality Taskforce, aims to boost economic security and gender equality. The initiative complements other efforts like expanding Paid Parental Leave to six months by 2026 and improving access through a more generous family income test. This reform underscores the government’s commitment to supporting women balancing work and care responsibilities. #BeyondBordersHR #BBHR #HR #HRConsulting #HRservices #HRAdvisory #GlobalHR #GlobalWorkforce #HumanResources #HRlaw #GlobalTeam #EmployeeBenefits #Australia #AustralianEmployee #Australian #LaborLaw #PaidParentalLeave #SuperAnnuation #WomenEquality #WomenEconomicEquality
