💡Did you know that sponsorship is a great way to position your brand? A prime example of the power of this strategy is betting companies, one of the fastest-growing markets in Brazil today. As a matter of fact, 3 out of every 4 teams in the Serie A of the Brasileirão are sponsored by a betting company. But why is this the case? Aside from the clear link between betting and football, the main objective is to position the betting sector as a form of entertainment rather than an investment or a way to make money. This is the same reason why betting companies have sponsored reality shows such as Big Brother, Estrelas da Casa, and A Fazenda. However, it is crucial that there are clear and well-defined rules for sponsorships, and Brazil's new sports betting regulations introduce important measures aimed at ensuring responsible gaming (I'll explore this in more detail in a future post). In this context, in July this year, the SPA (Secretaria de Políticas de Apostas - Betting Policy Secretariat) issued Ordinance No. 1231, Chapters III and IV, which outline the advertising rules for the regulated market set to start in January 2025. Some of the main prohibitions include: ▪️ The use of CTAs (calls to action) that encourage immediate action (such as "play now"). ▪️Linking bets to personal or financial success. ▪️ Sponsoring or using the image of children and young people in advertising. ▪️Sponsoring events primarily aimed at children and young people. ▪️ Signing written contracts with affiliates and holding them accountable for compliance. These rules are essential for promoting a safe and responsible environment for players, ensuring that sports betting activities are carried out ethically and conscientiously. As we move closer to the implementation of these guidelines in 2025, brands must adapt and commit to Responsible Gambling. 📌 Sponsorships, when done responsibly, not only strengthen brand positioning but also demonstrate a commitment to integrity and ethics in the sector. #Sponsorship #Marketing #iGaming

Sports betting sponsorship spend on Brazilian Football grew exponentially between 2020 and 2024. Updated regulation has created unique market conditions with many different players vying for awareness and match-day exposure in the country’s most watched sport. The buyers are made up of strong local brands and an influx of international investors such as Betano, Superbet and Betfair - who spend $97m collectively. The most popular sponsorship strategy for sports betting brands in Brazil is Front of Shirt partnerships. For the 2024 season, 34 out of the 40 clubs across Brazil's Serie A & Serie B have sports betting front-of-shirt partners.
