D&A would like to congratulate Accelerate Indian Philanthropy (AIP) on the release of their landmark report, "Wealth with Purpose," created in collaboration with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). This report explores the philanthropic journeys of 100 ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNIs) in India, with the main objective of inspiring both emerging and experienced philanthropists to engage in more strategic and impactful giving. By offering valuable insights and frameworks, the report aims to transform how philanthropy is practiced among the top 1%. Key insights from the report reveal a notable shift in philanthropic practices, moving from traditional charity to strategic giving, with many philanthropists now adopting a systems-change approach. An impressive 90% of UHNIs are keen to deepen their advocacy and support to ensure a lasting impact, demonstrating a strong commitment to strategic philanthropy. This trend indicates a growing desire among India's wealthiest to not only increase their financial contributions but also engage more deeply in systemic solutions to address societal challenges. D&A's is dedicated to amplifying the impact of philanthropic capital through Blended and Outcome-Based Financing. Our initiatives aim to make philanthropic contributions more catalytic, driving significant impact. We believe that philanthropy's transformative potential can be leveraged to catalyse sustainable development. To this end, D&A plans to engage with high-net-worth individuals (HNIs) to understand their development priorities and commit capital into projects using innovative finance instruments. Philanthropy is often described as a way to give back, but we believe it’s much more than that. For our Capacity Building head, Poonam Choksi "It’s about creating real, lasting change that addresses the root causes of the challenges we face and creates an impact that outlives us." Below are some of her initial thoughts on the Wealth with Purpose report by Accelerate Indian Philanthropy (AIP) and Boston Consulting Group (BCG), that provides insights from 100 top philanthropists, detailing how private philanthropy can drive systemic change and sustainable development. "In the recent report by AIP and BCG on Wealth With Purpose, one insight stood out for me: If India’s ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNIs) channeled just 5% of their incremental wealth, we could unlock ₹75,500 crore annually for social good. That’s three times the government’s budget for women and child development. What would we do with that kind of capital? We could transform quality of education, revolutionize healthcare, and scale climate resilience efforts. But here’s the thing—it’s not just about the money. As our co-founder, Amit Chandra so powerfully puts it in the report: “Philanthropy is deeply personal. It’s a way of giving back to the society that helped create our wealth in the first place.” This resonates deeply with me. I’ve seen how powerful it is when giving becomes intentional—not just writing a cheque, but really thinking about the how, where, and why of every rupee spent. At our foundation, we work every day to build the capacity of individuals and organizations to think bigger and bolder, enabling them to solve problems at scale. For philanthropy to truly move the needle, the aspirations of NGOs must align with the boldness of the philanthropists supporting them. Together, we can address the sticky, systemic challenges that plague generations to come. The Wealth With Purpose report is a must-read for anyone in the philanthropic space. It shares incredible stories of philanthropists who are shifting from generosity to impact, and from charity to systems change." What’s the one thing you think philanthropy should do differently to build a better future? We would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you, TiE Singapore for an enlightening fireside chat with Lakshminarayana K R ("Lan"), Chief Endowment Officer of Azim Premji Foundation. Premji Foundation is endowed with the bulk of Azim Premji’s shares in Wipro and supports 350,000 schools and over 900 not-for-profit organizations – government scale privately managed. Lan shared key insights about the Business of Philanthropy and the Foundation's tracking of inputs, outputs, outcomes, and impact. Unlike quarterly-driven businesses with control over what they do and clarity over what leads to what, philanthropic outcomes happen in a 3 - 5 year time horizon, impact in 10 years, frequently without much control or clarity. 'Tough job! Just as philanthropy is borrowing business methods to run better, should profit-making businesses adopt some long-term focus and more awareness of what they can't control and don't understand? #philanthropy #NGO #notforprofit #socialinvesting

It’s truly inspiring to witness the remarkable strides being taken towards enhancing the visibility and financial sustainability of Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) through NSE. The listing ceremony of five more social projects through ZCZP bonds marks a significant milestone in our collective journey towards fostering a robust social capital marketplace. This innovative approach not only highlights the potential for NPOs to create substantial impact in critical areas such as education, skill development, livelihoods, agriculture, and women empowerment but also underscores the evolving narrative of social impact financing in India. At Sansiddhi Consultancy Services, we resonate deeply with the vision of bringing about long-term growth for NPOs by leveraging the power of capital markets. Our efforts are aligned with this transformative agenda, aiming to bridge the gap between social missions and financial inclusion. As we support NPOs in navigating the complexities of registering and listing on the Social Stock Exchange, we are committed to empowering these organizations to articulate their value proposition effectively, mobilize resources efficiently, and ultimately scale their impact. Sansiddhi Consultancy Services is proud to be a part of this transformative journey, assisting NPOs in realizing their potential through this groundbreaking initiative. We look forward to continuing our support for the NPO fraternity, encouraging more organizations to step forward and leverage this platform for their long-term success.

LET US OWN THIS CHANGE TOGETHER FOR LONG TERM GROWTH OF NON-PROFIT SOCIAL ENTERPRISES It was a proud moment for me to be invited yesterday in the listing ceremony of five more social projects worth about 8 crore Rupees raised through Zero Coupon Zero Principal bonds by five Not-for-Profit Organizations (NPOs) at National Stock Exchange (NSE) to create impact in the field of education, skill development, livelihoods, agriculture and women empowerment. This is the most welcome breakthrough after the first listing of one social project at NSE in December 2023. This has been a long learning journey since 2015 when mainstreaming of Social Enterprise agenda in the Government was handled by me as Joint Secretary in the ‘National Policy of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship 2015’ that had clearly spelled out the need for ‘fostering a social capital market place’ in para 5.9.2 of the policy. It is heart-warming that the flagship announcement made by Hon Finance Minister in 2019 to take capital markets closer to the masses and meet various social welfare objectives related to inclusive growth and financial inclusion has in fact turned into a reality now. Civil Society Organisations do great work on the ground to serve the humanity but mostly find it difficult to create this narrative effectively in the social marketplace which is very essential for mobilising resources for their growth. It is amazing to see now how social marketplace is emerging in India like the capital marketplace through this regulated platform symbolising the mark of trust and transparency to establish social marketability of NPOs that could help them grow by leaps and bounds to serve the humanity. There is no denying of the fact that this instrument will get more traction in philanthropic transactions in the coming years. The six NPOs who got listed, so far, have proven their mettle that they can be as efficient as corporates to deal with the instruments and processes which a regulated marketplace demands. They have pioneered in creating the changed narrative of NPOs which the world can see. Thus, although the process seems to be hard at first for many NPOs who are trying to get registered and listed, I urge the NPO fraternity to come forward and own this platform for your long-term growth. #socialimpact #msde #socialenterprise #sebi #civilsociety #nseindia #impacteconomy #bseindia #socialstockexchange #bioeconomy #nonprofitleadership

It’s amazing how small the world can be! Through Shruti Patil’s fantastic Social Sector Development Brunch Circle, I had the chance to connect with Rahul Shah and we realized that we both started our journeys in the social sector at the same NGO in Ahmedabad – though at different times. It’s incredible how our paths have crossed again! At 4th Wheel Social Impact, we deeply resonate with Rahul’s thoughts on M&E. Our work is rooted in helping organizations not only track but also continuously improve their impact. We believe that integrating Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) from the very beginning is key to fostering sustainable, meaningful change. We also work closely with organizations to ensure that their impact is communicated effectively – empowering them to mobilize support and strengthen partnerships. At 4th Wheel, we remain committed to empowering organizations with the right tools to drive lasting change and make their impact resonate far and wide. #socialimpact #monitoringandevaluation #MEL #impact #nonprofits #4thWheelSocialImpact #sustainablechange #partnerships
For non-profits, impact is everything. To achieve and sustain that impact, investing in a strong Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) function is not optional - it’s essential. Here are some tips for non-profits related to M&E: Integrate M&E from the Start - M&E shouldn’t be an afterthought, it must be integrated into your program design from day one. By building in mechanisms to monitor activities and outputs from the beginning, you set the stage to clearly articulate your outcomes and allow for meaningful course corrections and pivots along the way. Measure Your Impact - You can’t manage what you don’t measure. M&E helps non-profits track their impact with precision, generating data to show what’s working and where improvements are needed. It turns anecdotal stories into evidence that can demonstrate your success and drive your program strategy. Manage & Improve Your Impact - To create lasting change, you need to continuously improve your programs. M&E allows non-profits to assess progress, identify gaps, and make informed decisions that enhance the overall effectiveness of programs. Without it, one can easily stay focused more on activities and outputs rather than improving impact. Communicate Impact Effectively - M&E isn’t just for internal use, it’s crucial for communicating your impact to external stakeholders. Whether it’s reporting to funders, crafting partnerships, engaging with government, or mobilizing community support - M&E gives you the data to communicate your impact with confidence and credibility. Investing in M&E empowers non-profits to design smarter programs, measure impact, continuously improve, and communicate that success both internally and externally. It is essential for any engine that drives sustainable, meaningful change. For some great consulting firms that are helping non-profits build their institutional capabilities in M&E - check out Sattva Consulting, 4th Wheel Social Impact, Populi India, and goalkeep along with the amazing leaders driving them. #nonprofit #impact #monitoringandevaluation #socialimpact #socialimpactmemes #nonprofithumor #linkedinfornonprofits

Broadly agree with Karthik Muralidharan in this part of his book on Accelerating India's Development but also want to bring a bit of nuance to it based on how we look at it at SauraMandala Foundation | Centre for Accelerated Development Using philanthropic capital to only improve the efficiency of public spending and finance in my opinion is a slightly futile exercise, since the design of the schemes /plans for public spending itself are very disconnected from the ground realities. It very quickly becomes the case of mopping the floor with the pipes leaking. A good example of this is all the philanthropic effort that's gone into putting more investments and people into aspirational districts resulting in throwing more people at the problem and not too many systemic changes. What I instead believe should happen is the use of philanthropic capital towards identifying root causes and designing pilots for eventual policy level pilots and hence de-risking iteration for the public system and also allowing ground up solutions to emerge. post which it can be scaled by policy and philanthropy should continue to play a role to support scale up and institutionalisation into the system hence ending up with better capacity in the state. This is more of an effort to fix the pipes but it takes longer as we need to find the exact places it's leaking in.
