About us
Dream of a Dream is an Indian non profit organisation working to transform the experience of education for the 130+ million children living in poverty in India. Our aim is to change the purpose of education towards the idea of Thriving for every child. Since 1999, Dream a Dream has mainstreamed life skills as a critical approach to help children overcome adversity and learn to thrive. Today, the organisation is transforming the Indian education ecosystem through its own programmes, through curriculum and pedagogical innovations and through the development of holistic assessment frameworks while also shifting the narratives around the purpose of education. Dream a Dream’s work is spread across 7 Indian states reaching over 2.2 million children through strategic partnerships with state governments and collaborations with other non-profits and funders in India.

We are partners of the LearningPlanet Festival hosted by the Learning Planet Institute! The LearningPlanet Festival is a free, inclusive event dedicated to celebrating education and lifelong learning. Join our Fireside Chat on 17th January from 9-10 am (IST). The chat is based on the insights gained via the book 'When We Thrive, Our World Thrives: Stories of Young People growing up with Adversity'. The panel will have the authors- Dr. Connie K Chung, EdD (Education researcher) and Vishal Talreja (Co-founder, Dream a Dream), along with Manjunath Anand and Pallavi S (whose stories are featured in the book). The book proposes that education systems can be intentionally designed to move young people from adversity to thriving. It invites parents, educators, health professionals, policy makers and all decision makers in young people’s lives to understand the need for thriving, the environment which enables it and to intentionally design it. The conversation will be facilitated by Master Facilitator, Nadia Chaney (Founder, Toolsi). In classrooms everywhere, unseen forces—Invisible Pedagogical Mindsets—shape how students learn and grow. These mindsets, deeply rooted in culture, education systems, and dominant learning theories, often reinforce systemic inequalities, limiting students’ ability to thrive. It’s time to reimagine education to ensure equity and inclusion are at its heart. Together, we explored these critical dynamics in our commentary, examining the factors shaping pedagogical practices in India. The piece highlights the urgent need for locally-led, collaborative research to drive meaningful and sustainable change in education systems. A 3-day workshop was organised in SCERT, Punjab from 9th to 11th December with 16 teachers who are part of the content team to develop, review and finalise the stories and content contextualised for Punjab's Happiness Curriculum. During this workshop, teachers reviewed the stories and tried to give them a final touch by identifying the skills and values hidden in each chapter. They also worked on lesson plans and objectives of each. Administrators, teachers and the Dream a Dream team also brainstormed about the implementation plan. This workshop was facilitated by Dream a Dream and participants were taken through the journey of self-reflection to help them understand the child's perspective and needs. #InTheNews: Dream A Dream is featured in The Economic Times Times. "Nonprofits that don't need large infusions of capital for scale can sustain themselves for a long time. Nonprofits like SaveLife Foundation, Dream a Dream, and PRS Legislative Research have made an outsized impact with budgets of less than a couple of million dollars", writes Varun Aggarwal and Luis Miranda in their article on how nonprofits are transforming India and shaping a better tomorrow. How do we shift our mindset about success from narrow parameters of academic excellence and material wealth to the broader, inclusive concept of thriving? We believe that the mindset that each of us hold makes the system and systems shift when individuals, who make up that system, shift. Catch us live tomorrow on Instagram at 9 am as we speak to Madhuri Dhariwal of Indus Action about her journey of finding the self within the system. #Live #YoungPeople #Inclusion #Education #ChangeTheScript #SystemsChange
