As 2024 comes to a close, we are filled with gratitude for the incredible journey we’ve shared. Together, we’ve grown GivingPi into the largest global family philanthropy network - 350 families giving over INR 1,600 crores to India. This milestone is a testament to the power of collective giving and the transformative impact we can create when we come together for a shared purpose. We are taking a brief pause on all things GivingPi to reflect, refresh, and renew. See you in 2025 with GivingPi Global. Stay tuned.

GivingPi Member Lata Krishnan is the Co-Founder of the American India Foundation - USA (AIF), an operating foundation addressing multi-dimensional poverty in India through high-impact interventions in health, education, and livelihoods. As part of its program portfolio, AIF spearheads the AIF Banyan Impact Fellowship, a transformative bi-national volunteer service program, vital to strengthening the US-India corridor. Both Lata and her husband Ajay Shah have been deeply involved in advancing the Fellowship, serving as significant financial contributors and supporters. By fostering collaboration between young professionals from both nations, the program nurtures future leaders dedicated to sustainable change and deepens the US-India relationship. Through a service-leadership model, fellows engage with communities across diverse themes - such as education, public health, climate justice, and social inclusion - contributing to projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. Since 2001, AIF has supported 573 fellows and 255 partner organizations across 25 Indian states, and with the introduction of new segments, it continues to expand its reach by enabling Indian social change professionals to serve in the US. At the recent National Mental Health Festival (Mannotsava) at NIMHANS, Bangalore, Dasra and Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies (led by Rohini Nilekani, Chairperson and GivingPi Founders Circle Member) co-curated the session “Measuring What Matters: Bringing Mental Health Back from the Margins,” sparking critical conversations on reimagining mental health within development. Key takeaways emphasized the importance of mental health as a development lens, especially in the face of climate and cascading crises. Also expressed was the idea that to drive sustainable impact, programs must prioritize metrics and narratives that address mental well-being and resilience. Additionally, the session highlighted the need for a community-centered approach to Monitoring, Learning, and Evaluation (MLE), where community leadership and participatory processes take center stage. It was also noted that amplifying on-ground insights from civil society can bridge the gap with funders, fostering a more responsive and inclusive development landscape. These insights and perspectives were shared by panelists— Deepa Pawar (Anubhuti Trust), Dr KS Ramesh (Banyan Academy of Leadership in Mental Health), Ami Misra (Dasra), Pavitra Jayaraman (The PARC), and Benson Issac (Azim Premji University)—whose expertise illuminated new pathways for integrating mental health into development. #MentalHealthMatters #DevelopmentEquity #Dasra #NIMHANS #RohiniNilekaniPhilanthropies #GivingPi #event #ecosystem #MentalHealth
