🥬 Fresh, healthy food is a basic human right! 🥬 Yet it's becoming a luxury. The Boston Globe recently reported that grocery prices have gone up 25% since 2019. In that time, food insecurity in Massachusetts has also doubled. More families than ever are turning to food assistance programs for help. When they do, we believe they should find nutritious, high-quality options that nourish them, spark joy, and reflect their tastes. That's why Gaining Ground farms sustainably for hunger relief, and donates *everything we harvest* to regional food pantries, soup kitchens, day shelters, schools, and more. Will you support our work with a tax-deductible contribution today? Your financial contribution will yield fresh, organic produce this year for 2,100 households experiencing food insecurity in #Boston, #Lowell, and the #MetroWest. https://lnkd.in/e5vKvS7P Thank you!

Let’s Talk About Hunger Beyond the Holidays Why do we often feel the call to feed the hungry only during Thanksgiving and Christmas? The truth is, hunger doesn’t take a holiday. People in our communities are in need every single day of the year. This holiday season, as you generously donate turkeys or volunteer your time, think about extending that same kindness into the rest of the year. Supporting organizations like Table to Table whose mission is to fight food insecurity year-round and reduce food waste, is a great way to make a lasting impact. Here are a few ideas to help: 🍎 Donate funds or surplus food throughout the year. 🤲 Volunteer regularly, not just during the holidays. 📢 Spread the word about organizations tackling hunger. Let’s come together not just during the festive season, but always, to help those less fortunate. Together, we can make a difference, one meal at a time. www.Tabletotable.org #EndHunger #YearRoundGiving #SupportLocal #TableToTable #MakeADifference #rescuingfood #reducingwaste #relievinghunger

As someone passionate about food security, I was alarmed when a national leader in food rescue said to me, “If we pay farmers, they will expect to be paid.” 🧐🤨😱 This statement highlights a critical issue in food sustainability ——->>>> the donation-based model of the charitable food system. That's why I am teaming up with a Pennsylvania farmer to educate her colleagues on food equity for the farmer. Our workshop session title: “Food Dignity: Get Paid to Fight Hunger." It's crucial that we recognize the value of farmers' hard work and compensate them appropriately. Only then can we ensure food security for all. #FoodDignity #Sustainability #Farmers #FoodSecurity #PayFarmers2FightHunger

Did You Know: In 2022, 44 million Americans faced hunger while 71 million tons of food were wasted. In South Jersey alone, over 800,000 people experienced food insecurity. Today, that number has grown to 47 million Americans struggling with hunger, underscoring the increasing urgency to address this crisis. In response to these concerning numbers, Move For Hunger and The Tepper Foundation used our insights for their new report identifying ways to increase accessible fresh food and reduce food waste including: ♻️ Increasing communication, data collection, and transparency to build trust among local food organizations. ♻️ Building infrastructure by establishing a not-for-profit food hub for receiving, cleaning, repackaging, processing, cold storage, and shared transportation. ♻️ Maximizing food donation and recovery through targeted education campaigns for companies and producers with excess food. Today is #WorldHungerDay , where we confront the reality that even though the world produces enough food, 733 million people still struggle with hunger. Hunger isn't just about food shortages, it's tied to conflicts, and overall access to healthy, affordable options. At the Idaho Hunger Relief Task Force, we are committed to building solutions that work for everyone, from supporting local farmers to ensuring food access for students and vulnerable communities. Healthy food is a right, not a privilege. Together, we can tackle food insecurity by advocating for fair policies, investing in sustainable food systems, and reducing waste. Let's honor World Hunger Day by taking action to create a world where everyone, no matter where they live, has access to the nutritious foods they need to thrive. #idahohunger #nonprofit #advocacy

Did you know that in the United States, nearly 40% of the food sold at grocery stores goes to waste? In fact, an estimated 80 million tons of food gets thrown away each year. On top of that, an estimated 45 million Americans report experiencing food insecurity. Franklin, TN-based nonprofit, One Generation Away seeks to stop food waste—and more importantly, feed those who need it. The organization offers a mobile pantry—delivering boxes of food to those in need, no questions asked. The items One Generation Away offers are all perfectly viable and healthful, and typically include fresh produce and pantry staples like peanut butter, soups, cereal, and granola bars. Provisions Group team members recently gathered to help pack boxes as part of our Planting Seeds ethos. As symbolized by our wheat logo, when you help others, everyone can reap a harvest. We love to serve the community, to help everyone thrive. #NashilleCommunity #PlantingSeeds #CommunityService #NashvilleTech

How much bread do you think is in this photo? 🤔 The food that we recover is priceless to our nonprofit partners for their food distribution and to our neighbors at our markets, but it does come with a pretty huge price tag in potentially wasted resources and value. 🍞 We've distributed over $5,000 worth of baked goods (and this is a conservative estimate!) at the markets alone so far this year. On top of that, the bread was baked using a dozen ingredients including flour, which grew on limited agricultural land with months of hard work and precious freshwater, and then transported to its final location on a truck that produced more carbon emissions. This is just a small example of the 40% of food being wasted in the U.S. each year. It's so crazy to think about just how much food is produced and never eaten, but we're glad we can do this work to help feed people instead! ... #foodrecovery #foodrescue #food #denver #nonprofit

With an eye on the growing world population and the need to protect natural resources, Iowa’s farmers, leaders and policymakers are always focused on making more with less and ensuring that the food produced is distributed to those who need it. And the facts back that up. ◾ Iowa is No. 1 for cropland harvested. ◾ We produce 8% of the country’s food supply. ◾ Iowa pig farmers donated more than $43,000 in pork to local food pantries this spring. Every year, Feeding America conducts an extensive report called Map the Meal Gap, collecting data on individuals in every county in the US to determine the national state of food insecurity. Data from 2022 was just released, and in Harvesters' service area, 1 in 8 people (12.4%) are experiencing food insecurity, up from 1 in 11 the previous year. For children, that number is 1 in 6. Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap study is a powerful tool to understand local impact and take action. We can leverage this data to address factors impacting food insecurity and unite to ensure everyone has access to the food and resources we all need to thrive. Some key findings from our most recent study include: 🔸 Food insecurity impacts communities in every county, parish, and congressional district in the U.S. 🔸 Child food insecurity rates can reach almost 50% in some counties. 🔸 Eight out of 10 high food insecurity counties are in the South, indicating regional disparities. 🔸 Rural counties disproportionately experience high levels of food insecurity compared to urban areas. You can help fight food insecurity in Harvesters—The Community Food Network’s 26 counties by: 🍽️ Giving Food 👫🏽 Giving Time 💵 Giving Money 🗣️ Giving Voice Help us devour hunger today! #harvesters #foodinsecurity #foodisahumanright #nonprofit
