Aquesta iniciativa, amb la col·laboració de 15 parcs científics i tecnològics de tot Espanya, busca visibilitzar les infraestructures d’innovació davant investigadors, empreses, societat civil i administració pública. (USA 01.11.24) #agtech Are agtech stakeholders actually collaborating? FIRA USA 2024 attendees weigh in. At FIRA USA 2024 https://fira-usa.com/, discussions centered on the progress and challenges of collaboration within the agtech industry. While there are promising signs of increasing collaboration across sectors, particularly between startups, government, and farmers, more action is needed. Panelists noted that farmers are eager to work with tech innovators, but often find government programs too bureaucratic to be effective. There were also examples of successful partnerships, like those in the strawberry industry, where growers collaborate with researchers to develop solutions. However, experts emphasized that successful partnerships require sustained effort from all parties, and that companies must be committed to working together to drive the industry forward. This day of joint intellectual, personal, and culinary exchange around agro-food systems was a delight to participate in. Stakeholders across sectors practiced their openness to think beyond their own plate, seeing the potential in identifying new relations through new circular types of flows between economic sectors, where agriculture and food production-consumption interplay (more) with forestry, crafts, the built environment, public services, the producing industry, but also finances, and the arts - while conscious forms of tourism, such as Systemic Cycles, have the potential to long-term "weave" diverse economies that are more adaptive and transformative (resilient), and that spur the bioregional (which are often different than political regions) focus toward a vision of becoming regenerative across governance and spatial scales. Re-thinking tourism and overall cross-wiring actors and sectors in the sense of "we are all in the same boat" while making it fun and delicious (the offered food was the proxy). I hope there will be some follow-up, taking-it-further initiatives of new collaborations launching from this gathering. Thanks to Swiss Food Research for the invite.

Descubriendo el AgriFoodtech en América Latina: Full Research 🌱🌎 En mi último post, compartí una visión general sobre el #AgriFoodtech y su clasificación. Debido al interés sobre el tema, hoy me gustaría compartirles toda la investigación que pude realizar durante mi internship en Kalei Ventures. Esta investigación, como parte del programa de #internship de Kalei, ofrece una visión exhaustiva de cómo el AgriFoodtech está transformando la industria en América Latina, abordando desafíos específicos y destacando las oportunidades emergentes. En la investigación podrán ver el siguiente contenido: 💡 Una introducción sobre el concepto de AgriFoodtech, como vimos anteriormente. 💡 Estudios que muestran la relevancia de esta enorme vertical en Latinoamérica, con números que justifican el creciente interés. 💡 Una visión del futuro del AgriFoodtech, destacando #tendencias y #oportunidades en las distintas subindustrias que vimos anteriormente. Why I feel #SynBio will disrupt the #agro industry and #Spain (and #Almeria) will occupy a leadership position? 🌱 (2/ñ) This is a complex theme, but I was eager to tackle it, especially after Chema Oliva's comment on my last post about #foodtech (take a look if you haven't yet) 👀 Last year, I dedicated a significant amount of time to studying how to foster the synbio and bioentrepreneurship ecosystem in Spain. Unsurprisingly, the intersection with #agtech took up most of my focus, heavily influenced by my time living in my hometown: Almeria 🌞 You probably already know that there are major limitations across the country (similar to other parts of Europe): the lack of wet lab spaces and the insufficient connection between academia and industry, alongside a weak collaboration network among stakeholders 🌐. These challenges are common in deep tech, including market education, long sales cycles, and regulatory barriers 📉📜 On the other hand, Spain, particularly regions in the Mediterranean part boasts tremendous production capabilities. Not for nothing is Almería known as the "greenhouse of Europe," with its greenhouses being the only human-made structures visible from space (not the Great Wall of China! 🧱). Let's get to the point: Spain's climate, tradition, and industry make it a true powerhouse for agricultural innovation 🌿. Tomatoes, peppers, olive oil, citrus fruits, cucumbers... you name it, we're a reference While this highlights production, the need for natural products in R&D, including #synbio (aka engineering biology), is evident, especially post-#greendeal 🌾. For example, the latest Capgemini #synbio report (by Richard Traherne and his team) highlights that 57% of agriculture executives see biofertilizers as having a high impact on their industry 💡 Okay, and what about wet lab spaces and a better-connected ecosystem? 🤝 Well, I am not exaggerating when I say that only this year, several #agtech #hubs offering lab space have been announced across the country: Cataluña (Lleida), Valencia (Parc Científic de la Universitat de València), Andalusia, etc In fact, focusing on Andalusia, the Junta de Andalucía (Andalusian government) is promoting a hub for the agroindustry, collaborating with the government, #VC (Startup Wise Guys), and relevant #stakeholders Even more! There are great companies like Kimitec or Biorizon Biotech (both based in Almeria) that have been producing biofertilizers for several years. But Spain also has #synbio #spinoffs like Madeinplant, reprogramming plants to improve their agronomic traits or use them as biofactories 🏭 So yeah, I predict a bright future for #SynBio and the #bioeconomy landscape in Spain, where #agtech will be crucial. I will talk about other relevant stakeholders and the intersection of synbio and other fields like #health in other posts. "Innovación en los sistemas agroalimentarios: Aprendizajes del Seminario Internacional de la Red Innovagro" Me complace compartir con ustedes que recientemente tuve el honor de participar en la conferencia de apertura del Seminario Internacional de la @RedInnovagro, @IICAOrg La Red Innovagro es una plataforma clave que promueve la innovación y el desarrollo tecnológico en el sector agroalimentario de Latinoamérica y el Caribe, conectando a diversos actores clave como universidades, centros de investigación, empresas y productores. En mi conferencia, abordé los "Escenarios de innovación, ciencia y producción para la transformación de los sistemas agroalimentarios enfocado en Israel". Presenté como Israel llegó a ser un gran centro de innovación a nivel mundial y como a traves de la innovación podemos tambien en hiberoamerica colaborar con soluciones disruptivas a enfrentar los desafios del sector agroalimentario para abastecer de alimentos sanos y suficientes frente al aumento de la población mundial. Entre los ejemplos de «Israel Start up Nation» abordé dos innovaciones que considero muy apropiadas para adaptarlas a la cultura latinoamericana: la innovación Social (kibutz) y la innovación matemática. Agradezco profundamente a la Presidencia de la Red Innovagro y a los organizadores del evento por brindarme esta destacada oportunidad de compartir mis conocimientos y experiencia con los participantes del seminario. Fue un espacio enriquecedor de intercambio de ideas y colaboración.
