Labor market 2024 insights and retention In 2024, employees are prioritizing their well-being, flexibility, opportunity, and understanding from their employers. The key takeaway is clear: listening to employees, fostering work-life balance, and offering competitive wages are crucial. Great article to start the week from Joanna Fantozzi at Nation's Restaurant News on the current state of the Labor Market in the restaurant industry. Attracting the best talent has been nothing short of an uphill battle post-covid, but perhaps the question shouldn't be 'How do we bring in better talent?' but 'How do we retain our current employees?'. A recent study completed by Glassdoor and BBADegree.org found that employee burnout in restaurants scored a 98/100 on their burnout scale with stress and long hours being the most common factors, highlighting one of the major issues in regard to labor for restaurants. This does bring up the question 'How am I to reduce the hours of my employees when my labor force is already so small?'. I don't have the answer(s) to that question, however, I believe that embracing this mindset of retention, as opposed to addition, could prove to be invaluable as you evaluate current working conditions and hiring processes. #labor #retention #hiring #restaurants #franchise https://lnkd.in/erSrvdhy

Positive trends in #job growth in the #restaurant industry, particularly in quick-service concepts. This tracks with what I've seen in the recruiting environment as well: high demand for quick-casual talent BUT continuing to be a deficit when it comes to candidates. Massachusetts in particular is back to pre-pandemic levels of job growth and openings, but the decreased talent pool continues to be a challenge. If you're a Manager in a successful quick-casual concept, YOU are in demand!

One must be careful when looking at reports of restaurant job growth, as there are many factors that shape the industry as a whole. Keep in mind, this past year has demonstrated the recovery is not a given and is still a work in progress. Guest experience is just one differentiator on this road to recovery for our industry, meaning a slowing in job growth is likely a correction given the turnaround the industry has recently faced. Here at Happy Joe's Pizza we believe that there is no shortage of opportunity in our industry. But we continue to believe Guest experiences are the key differentiator given the state of the economy, inflation, and a tightening labor market. #Restaurant #Leadership #RestaurantIndustry

Recently, I had the pleasure of sitting down with some of our valued customers, diving deep into the current state of the #restaurant industry and sharing insights. Here's what I've gathered: The pulse of the industry shows a mixed bag of challenges and hopeful outlooks. Managerial turnover remains a pain point, yet we're seeing a stabilizing trend in food costs after years of sharp rises. This stability gives me cautious optimism for a period of calm, potentially leading up to a few prosperous years ahead. I'm relying on 2024 as a year of solid performance and growth for our industry Our discussions show that while hourly staff turnover may decrease, keeping managers onboard is still a significant hurdle. We must make managerial roles more appealing and manageable, enhancing the overall dining experience. With Full-Service Restaurants (FSRs) competing for consumer spending, it's evident that diners are becoming more discerning with their wallets. FSRs also often find themselves on the battle lines with Quick Service Restaurants (QSRs) for the same customer. Moreover, compliance challenges, particularly on the West Coast, add another layer of complexity to staffing and operations. In an era where experiences become more important as houses, for example, become less affordable, understanding and enhancing the overall dining experience—from the ease of making a reservation to the moment the meal is enjoyed—is paramount. So, here's my question to you, my network: How are we, as industry leaders and innovators, addressing these challenges? I'd love to hear your thoughts and strategies as we navigate these waters together.
