For almost two decades I have worked for myself, running a small private business in UK. I have also worked for multiple companies and large corporations in Dubai, but one common thing I have noticed in all of them is a certain type of people that I would never want to go in business with. Every day this week I will post a personality type which I have learned the hard way not to engage or rely on and as per usual, I want to hear your thoughts on this. When you start any business or a new job, we are usually very excited for the promising journey ahead, but sometimes we overlook that the most important foundation for any business is ability to select the right people. When you are just starting out, it can be tempting to partner with anyone who shares your enthusiasm. With the right people by your side you can save yourself time, stress, and maybe even avoid some costly mistakes. So here we go…. My first type that I can not work with is the chronic pessimist. For me attitude is everything and in business, this couldn’t be more true. In life and in business you are destined to face challenges, it is just a part of the game. But how you react to these hurdles can either propel your business forward or send it spiraling downwards. The chronic pessimist is someone who always sees the glass as half empty, no matter what success you achieve, they’ll find a way to focus on the negatives. Don’t get me wrong, constructive criticism is essential for growth, but constant negativity can drain the energy out of your team, slow creativity and progress. Remember, negativity is contagious….. As I spend this weekend at the Sheraton Grand Hotel, Dubai, I am flooded with memories of the past eight years as an entrepreneur. More than half of that time, this hotel was not just a temporary stay but a home and office. Each day was a hustle, a relentless chase between what once was my home and the next door that served as my office. Meals were squeezed in between work, and sleep was a luxury I thought I couldn’t afford. Free time was a rare commodity. Despite the hustle, I was blessed to live here where everything was neatly arranged for me. Now, my life looks different—less chaotic, less stressful—but it's still not exactly where I want it to be. And I wonder, will it ever be? I'm happier; now my life is more about the journey and the next goal. Whether it's a personal milestone or a professional achievement, I always have a new target. Because once I'm left without a target, I feel lost. When I feel out of balance or a bit lost, I know it's time to check in and reassess my targets. It helps me regain my focus and balance. I Don’t Want to Go to Dubai 🌍✈️ Imagine sitting in front of a travel agent and saying, “I don’t want to go to Dubai.” They’d look at you, confused, and probably say, “Okay… but where do you want to go?” This is exactly how our minds react when we focus on what we don’t want. It’s like giving our internal GPS a negative destination — it gets us nowhere. I had a friend who felt trapped in a toxic relationship. She called me, pouring out her frustrations, saying over and over, “I just don’t want these daily fights anymore.” So, I asked, “What do you want?” There was silence. She couldn’t answer. Her life had become so wrapped up in what she didn’t want, she had no vision for a better future. Eventually, the situation became so unbearable that she had no choice but to leave — it was literally a matter of survival. The Lesson? Focus On What You Want Our minds need clear instructions, not vague avoidance. When we focus only on what we want to avoid, we get stuck, going in circles. But when we choose a clear destination — in relationships, careers, or personal goals — we give ourselves a path forward. So, stop telling yourself what you don’t want. Instead, ask, “What do I want?” Write it down. Be clear. Your future depends on the clarity of that answer. So, what’s your destination? You know you are living your purpose when you are creating an impact! Client success story - Then: My client wasted 4+ years planning to start her first business but failed to take action. It’s been 365 days since I started a new chapter of my life and moved to Dubai. Now I call this place my new home. Looking back, it feels like just yesterday when I was a young dreamer.
