Food Adulteration: You like Tomato, I like Tomayto If data mining for food adulteration incidents, always remember that the US regulatory definition is much wider than that of many other countries. US “adulteration” includes everything from pesticide residues to salmonella. In some cases, the root cause may still be #foodfraud. For example, the new FDA Compliance Policy on histamine in fish. Histamine is formed after temperature abuse. This may just be poor practice. But when lied about (falsified storage records or durability dates) then it is fraud. Food safety is not always top of fraudsters’ priority lists.

Indeed, it's disheartening to see that some basic and easily avoidable mistakes continue to occur in the food industry. Proper food handling practices should be a fundamental aspect of operations. If everyone adheres to best practices and maintains high standards in their respective areas, the prevalence of foodborne illnesses can be significantly reduced. It’s a collective effort that requires commitment and responsibility from every individual involved in food handling. Water quality shouldn’t be an issue now 😭😭 I believe it is a low hanging fruit, this is where all should start. #foodsafetychampion #foodsafetyfirst #awareness #safebiteconsulting
Untreated canal water again. All too familiar. For anyone working on produce safety, a “reasonably foreseeable hazard” and 100% preventable. Growers should adhere to the provisions in FDA’s final, Preharvest Ag Water standard NOW and not wait for its compliance date. Consumer safety depends on it. #prevention #agwatertreatment

Food adulteration, often ignored due to lack of awareness, has led many to underestimate its serious long-term consequences. The allure of cheap alternatives has cast a blindfold over our eyes, making these risks seem negligible. Post-harvest wastage due to mishandling and inadequate storage facilities creates severe supply shortages which then is exploited by fake food mafias who flood the market with harmful adulterants, resulting in millions falling ill every day. The surprising truth is that much of this wastage can be prevented with a proper understanding of the supply chain system. Implementing best practices in storage, transportation, and handling can significantly reduce post-harvest losses and ensure the availability of safe, unadulterated food.
