The new UNEP Emissions Gap Report 2024 shows rather starkly how *completely* off track we are to keeping temperatures below 2°C. (See https://lnkd.in/d6bc9PF2) But the report does say this: “This report shows that it remains at least *technically* possible to get on a 1.5°C pathway.” Using the #EnRoads climate simulator we can show that yes, this is still indeed “technically” possible. Take a look👇🏻 What is the problem then? They state: “There are no signs of accelerated implementation, and countries are not even on track to deliver on their current NDCs.” THAT is the problem, not that we don’t know how to do it! #CliamteLiteracy #Leadership

I'm halfway through the Terra.do Learning for Action climate fellowship. Really enjoy flexing my systems thinking with my cohort, while considering justice and equity impacts of climate solutions. Exploring this scenario simulator was an interesting exercise in considering how different levers affect each other, and why some might be more impactful than others. What's realistic politically, what's inequitable, which energy supplies crowd out others, which solutions create faster carbon stock turnover? For example, the cumulative effect of maximizing building energy efficiency has a greater impact than increasing transportation energy efficiency because buildings generally have a longer life.
