It’s that time of year again – End of year parties are around the corner! These celebrations are a fantastic way to recognise your team’s hard work. But to keep the good vibes rolling, it’s important to have a few guidelines in place. Before the festivities begin, make sure your policies are up-to-date and clear on: -Code of Conduct -Workplace Health and Safety -Bullying, Harassment, and Discrimination -Drugs and Alcohol -Grievance Procedures When you send out the party invites, include a friendly reminder about expected behaviours and what’s covered by the company (like whether transport is provided). Set a clear end time for the official event and let everyone know that anything after that is off the clock. Need assistance updating your policies? While these end-of-year festivities are a fun opportunity to blow off some steam, they are also extensions of the workplace. As such, it's important to consider appropriate behaviour at these events, especially in light of the new legal duty to prevent sexual harassment at work. Here are our tips to help you prepare so that employees can relax and celebrate the end of the year in a safe and respectful environment: 🎄 Let employees know they are required to behave responsibly at work, including during work-related social events and that the normal rules and policies associated with workplace conduct still apply. 🎄Hold periodic training to remind people of the standards of conduct and the behaviour which is expected of them. Managers should also receive training on how to handle reports of sexual harassment. 🎄If an employee raises a claim of harassment, ensure that this is handled promptly, sensitively and in line with policy. #workchristmasparty #events #sexualharassment #management #hr #conduct

December is here so now felt like a good time to share some ground rules you may want to consider putting in place before the Christmas party ⬇️🎅🎄 Christmas is a great time for everyone to let their hair down and have some fun together but as a HR consultant I want to remind you are the business owner that whether you’re in your usual work place or you have organised your party to be held somewhere else, it’s your responsibility to keep everyone safe..... in short, you’re also liable for any acts of discrimination, harassment or victimisation your employees that might take place at your Christmas event. So, before any festivities, please consider these things: ✅ Remind employees that you want people to have fun and that its your way of say thank you for their hard work this year. ✅ Make it known that any social event you organise is technically an ‘extension of the workplace.’ ✅ Remind everyone attending that appropriate workplace behaviour still applies, anything inappropriate won’t be tolerated. ✅ Make it clear by giving examples of what unacceptable behaviour looks like, including what could be considered as sexual harassment. ✅ If alcohol will be available at your event, remind everyone about drinking responsibly and remind that no-one should drive to work or attend work intoxicated the next day if they are scheduled to work. Dress well, no matter what the occasion is. 5. Never eat the last piece of something you didn't buy. 6. Never insult the cooking when you are the guest. 7. Never beg for a relationship. 8. Don't use the urinal next to an occupied one. 9. Never take credit for work you didn't do. 10. Listen, nod and most of all make eye contact. 11. Don't throw your friend under the bus to impress someone. 12. Don't make fun of your friend in front of his kids. 13. Stay silent. Not everything needs to be said. 14. 🎃 Learning from Tater: A Halloween Lesson in HR 🎃 Meet Tater, my loyal companion, who recently got into the Halloween spirit at The Pink Poodle Pet Spa! 🐾 His patience, loyalty, and unconditional love remind me daily of the qualities that are essential not just for dogs but for thriving HR professionals. Tater’s ability to adapt, even when surrounded by spooky pumpkins and spiderwebs, teaches me resilience—an important trait in today’s dynamic workplace. Whether navigating the challenges of change management or fostering a culture of inclusivity, adaptability is key. 🐶 What I Learn from Tater: 1. Loyalty: Be there for your team, just like our furry friends stand by us. 2. Adaptability: Face challenges with courage, even when things seem a little scary (like Halloween decor!). 3. Positivity: Bring joy to those around you—sometimes, all it takes is a wag of the tail (or a supportive message) to make someone’s day.
