Reflections from the First @SDSN Cohort 5 Master Class: Unlocking the Potential of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Yesterday marked the commencement of the SDSN Cohort 5 journey, and I'm thrilled to be part of this mandatory yet invaluable learning experience. Here's a recap of the enlightening insights gained: 1. Evolution of SDGs: Kayode Ogunleye Emmanuel, our first speaker, provided a comprehensive overview of the evolution of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), tracing back to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in 2000 and culminating in the adoption of the SDGs in 2015. It was eye-opening to understand the extensive advocacy and movement behind these global initiatives. 2. Core Principles of SDGs: We explored the foundational principles of SDGs: Environmental Sustainability, Social Equity, and Economic Prosperity. These principles serve as guiding pillars for addressing pressing challenges and seizing opportunities for sustainable development. 3. Challenges and Opportunities: The session highlighted the multifaceted challenges facing our world, including climate change, resource depletion, and social inequity. However, amidst these challenges lie opportunities for innovation, partnership, and the adoption of circular economy practices. 4. Renewable Energy and Green Economy: Engr. Fisayo Adeyemi led an interactive session on renewable energy and the green economy. We delved into the distinction between clean energy and renewable energy and were introduced to tools for real-time monitoring of air quality. Additionally, we gained insights into Nigerian government movements such as the "Nigerian Transition Strategy" and key players in the solar production space. This master class filled me with enthusiasm and joy, reaffirming our collective responsibility in achieving the SDGs and creating a sustainable future. I'm eager to continue this journey with my fellow cohort members and make meaningful contributions to positive change in our communities. Join me in embracing the SDGs and let's make a difference together! #SDGs #SustainableDevelopment #RenewableEnergy #GreenEconomy #ClimateAction #SocialEquity #EconomicProsperity #Innovation #Partnerships #CircularEconomy #SDSN #Cohort5 #MakeADifference UN SDSN Youth - Nigeria

I have never been happy than today supporting things that can bring great change not just for Africa but globally. Quality Education in any society is a bridge to great success whether formal or informal. The immense breakthrough that comes with quality education enhance development through discoveries and advanced technologies. We can go and on when quality education is mentioned. Affordable and clean Energy can be driven through our firm knowledge of education but this time it's what we need in every society. The world continues to advance towards sustainable energy targets – but not fast enough. Ensuring universal access to affordable electricity by 2030 means investing in clean energy sources such as solar, wind and thermal. Expanding infrastructure and upgrading technology to provide clean energy in all developing countries is a crucial goal that can both encourage growth and help the environment. Climate Actions is now a "must read and watchout term" in every sector today. Though our everyday life depends on reliable and affordable energy, yet, the consumption of energy is the dominant contributor to climate change, accounting for more than 60 percent of total global greenhouse gas emissions. According to statistics, from 2015 to 2021, the proportion of the global population with access to electricity has increased from 81 to 91 percent. Peace, Justice and strong Institutions? who doesn't need peace, justice and strong Institutions for folster develoment? The Global Goals.16, promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, providing access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels for you and I. Since I was 9, Good Governance has become everyday song. During my primary school days, the definition sank in and can be said off-hand without wasting a minute. In Africa and other countries, leaders easily forget to practice or apply what they learned for corrupt gains. What then is Good governance? It's processes and institutions producing results that meet the needs of society while making the best use of resources at their disposal without compromise. People-driven development". what does it actually mean in practice? "Development is not about the delivery of goods to a passive citizenry. It is about active involvement and growing empowerment," according to the Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP). Development is "a people-driven process". Communities can effectively control funds and use them more efficiently and honestly than development agencies with bloated and overpaid bureaucracies. At YouthUp Global Advocacy program, we bring sustainable development goals to a maximum reality to position the future generations with realities for future outcomes. From quality education, affordable and clean Energy, climate actions,PJSI, Good Governance, and PDD we set to let our voices heard for a common purpose

As a passionate advocate for the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), I've witnessed firsthand the power of education, collaboration, and partnerships in driving progress towards these goals before 2030. Thanks to initiatives like the Sustainable Development Goals Advocate Programme by UN SDSN Youth - Nigeria, achieving these goals on a national level has become not just a possibility, but a reality. In our recent sessions, we've had the privilege of diving deep into the evolution of the Sustainable Development Goals. From the Early Environmental Movement to the Agenda 21 and Earth Summit, each milestone has paved the way for a more sustainable future, focusing on Environmental Sustainability, Social Equity, and Economic Prosperity. One particularly enlightening session was led by Kayode Ogunleye Emmanuel, who expertly traced the historical journey of the SDGs. We explored key moments like the Industrial Revolution and the United Nations' Environmental Awareness program, understanding how each step has contributed to our current global agenda for sustainable development. In our second session, Fisayo Adeyemi shed light on the crucial importance of Clean Energy and Green Economy. With compelling data showcasing Nigeria's current green economy status and the detrimental effects of fossil fuel emissions on our climate, the urgency for transitioning to natural gas plants across the country became strikingly clear also recognizing a lot of commitment from Investors like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Rockerfeller, spending a lot fund to fight the impact of climatic change in the World. Embracing this shift not only safeguards our environment but also positions Nigeria for a greener, more sustainable economy. A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated tutors and the UN SDSN Youth - Nigeria for organizing such insightful sessions through the SDG-AP Programme. Together, as SDG advocates and change-makers, we're making strides towards building a better society. I want to #TELL #EVERYONE #SDG_Advocate #Change_Maker #TogetherWeMakeABetterSociety

I attended another successful workshop at the 2024 cohort of the Africa SDGs Mentorship Programme. I engaged with young professionals and mentors, where the key outcomes were how IT governance involves aligning IT strategy with business goals, managing IT resources and risks, and ensuring value delivery and performance measurement. The transition from Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015 expanded the scope from eight to seventeen goals, addressing broader and more inclusive global challenges. Another keynote was learning about the pillars of development—economic development, social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and good governance—which are essential for sustainable progress. In Africa, achieving economic stability for the SDGs requires fostering economic growth, developing infrastructure, promoting sustainable agriculture, enhancing financial inclusion, building resilience, and forming robust partnerships to support development efforts. I look forward to attending more workshops and building my skills as a young professional. #AfricaSDGs #AU2063 #YouthEmpowerment #SustainableDevelopment #LeadershipDevelopment #SkillsForFuture #MentorshipMatters #FutureLeaders
